The food at Bastei Besi is traditional fare served in a very friendly environment. Our waiter spoke English and was very helpful in offering recommendations from the menu. The food was well-prepared and the complentary glass of brandy from the owner's stock was a nice touch. It was a "comfort" food served in a comfortable environment. Dinner prices were also reasonable.

We intended to go the tripadvisor number one restaurant "Loca" but the restaurant was fully booked. The manager advised us to go to this restaurant, thanks to him.

Food is great, staff is really kind. They even recommended a meal out of menu when my wife hesitated about the options.

Perhaps the only negative point is that there were only a few customers, so the restaurant was way too quiet. I felt a little bit uncomfortable and asked the waiter about it. I thought some music would help, but she sait that normally there was a lot more customers creating environment noise, however since it was the Easter weekend, people had went out of the city. So, she said, there was no need for music.

We ate here twice. The first time was by chance. We were looking for a place for dessert and we passed by on our way back to our hotel. It looked like a warm, inviting place for coffee, schnapps, and dessert. We were very happy with all three – warm apple strudel, good coffee and a liquor. We made a reservation for the following evening.

Dinner was very good as well. Our starters were the sheep’s cheese wrapped in thinly sliced ham and grilled. It was served on a bed a greens. We also had a potato and pumpkin pancake. Both were great, but the pancake was unique.

The veal roast with pepper sauce was served with potatoes. The Wiener Schnitzel came with a mixed vegetable salad. The schnitzel was the best we had on this trip!

Dessert was berries with ice cream.

The service was excellent both nights, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the prices were very reasonable, especially considering it is located right in the old town. Based on the way the waiters interacted with the other patrons, it appears that the clientele seems to be mostly local regulars.

No English language website, but an English menu was available.

Service not very cordial or efficient; order not fulfilled as asked, and had a longer wait than necessary. Food quality acceptable.
