A good test of an hotel is how they react when things go wrong.

We arrived with our on line booking reference only to discover that the booking had not been made due to incorrect credit card details (my fault). We were surprised that the hotel had not contacted us to sort this out and maybe they need to look at their systems to pick up on such matters. Had the hotel been fully booked there could have been problems.

However, being out of season a room was found and we booked in only to discover that the room had two single beds and not the requested double. Back to reception and another room was offered. I casually enquired if it was definitely a double and was told 'I hope so' and was asked to check and report back! Not the best customer experience!!! Fortunately it was and although it was clean and fully equipped it was rather tired and very cramped (on the 5th floor). To be fair the hotel is going through a refurbishment programme, so future visitors can expect an improvement.

The breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful.

The location is fine for travelling around Vienna's sights but the surrounding area may be a bit off putting for some as it is on the edge of the red light district. It is also close to the Turkish quarter with a great street market and excellent restaurants. There are also some great traditional Viennese ones as well - check out The Pelican.

In summary, we liked this hotel and it is clear that the management and staff work hard to create a good customer experience. We will now be regular visitors to Vienna and we will want to return to this hotel

I had read the reviews of this hotel and were impressed by how positive they were. As we walked to our 5th floor room after check-in, I was concerned as the wallpaper was shabby! This and the fact that you have to pay for internet are the only negatives for the hotel. The room was a comfortable size, even had a couch, and the bathroom was quite large and VERY CLEAN. Breakfasts were wonderful, staff very helpful and friendly. Location is great. We would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor room as the halls (perhaps even the rooms?) have been renovated there.

Stayed 6 nights in December 2012. We received the room early, already at 11 in the morning. This was very convenient. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Especially many thanks to Frau Felner, who speaks Russian, for her great help with concerts booking and general information and sightseeing tips.
Prices are very low. Great value for your money.
Our room was clean and modestly decorated, but large and comfortable. Especially the fact that the toilet and bathroom are separate. It is on the street side, so there was noise from the traffic outside in spite of the closed windows. But for some reason it did not bother us and we slept well at night. I guess others could find it disturbing, so I suggest taking a park-sided room, which should be quiet.
We had to pay 20 Euro for WIFI for the entire stay, because we booked it via an agent and not via the hotel's website. But this is a reasonable price. The WIFI charge included a 5-Euro coupon which we used later for the phone calls and snacks charges.
Breakfast is rich and tasty.
The hotel is about 10-15 minutes from the center of Vienna, either by tram No. 44 (station is right next to the hotel), or the U6 underground line, which is a few minutes down the street. There are several Austrian restaurants near the hotel. We recommend Benno.
We enjoyed our stay very much and can definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Prefer a park-sided room.

Dear Wizard41,

Thank you very much for having chosen our hotel for your stay in Vienna. I am glad, that you were satisfied with our work and our services.

I have already forwarded your comments to Mrs. Fellner, who is on duty today. She was very glad that you mentioned her in such a positive way. Indeed Mrs. Fellner is one of our Russian speaking staff, what is very helpful when some visitor do not speak English or maybe even German.

Thank you for having noticed, that the WiFi is completely for free and included, when booking directly.
Also the kitchen staff will be proud, when they will see how enthusiastic you commented on the rich hot and cold breakfast buffet (including the sparkling wine).

Summed up, thank you very much for your stay with us, we hope that we will see you or some of your friends here in the near future again!

Best regards and all the best for 2013,

Family Kluss and the entire staff.

We stayed five nights in this small family-run hotel. Rooms are clean, tidy and reasonable size. Hotel staff is very helpful and nice. We felt very welcome and enjoyed cozy athmosphere of this historical hotel, build in 1901. Reception and bar is open 24h/day. Hotel has a private sauna area with whirlpool and sauna, you can book it in advance and it cost 12 euros/per person (December 2012). You can stay there as long as you like and it's really nice experience after a long day of sightseeing and shopping!

Breakfast is very good and includes free sparkling wine..how many 3 star-hotels do this?! I recommend the hotel also because of its good location in Josefstadt, tram and metro stations are just next to the hotel. All in all hotel is highly recommendable and good value for you money.

Minus goes for the chargeable Wi-fi, it should be free or at least possible to pay at once for the whole stay, not hour by hour. Secondly, our room was situated in first floor, so you should take a pair of ear plugs with you just in case, traffic noise was quite loud.
