“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed 29 July 2008

I have booked this hotel due to its location and (low) price, after it was suggested by my travel agent. Before booking I have checked its website (in German), plus various reviews on the web. I must say that the room we've got was nothing like the pics I have seen here or on the web site. To be honest, I had a shock when we first entered it. It was a double (twin) on the 5th floor (actually the attic) and everything looked close to falling apart. Although we have waited for about 30 minutes as it was not check-in time yet, the room was not cleaned, bed-linen not changed etc. But that was solved pretty quickly and when we returned even the light bulb in the bathroom was replaced (the light was not working in the first place). The falling apart with stains wall-paper was still there, the so called furniture (in fact a tv table with the mini-bar and a drawer that were looking like "home-made") was still there, the minuscule, dirty-looking bath"room" was still there etc. But overall, it looked better than during the first encounter. At least the beds were comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and in the end we got used to it, with the help of the friendly staff and the wonderful Vienna itself. One additional minus: the attic room can get quite hot in the summer and there is no AC. But you can sleep with the attic-window open and there is no noise whatsoever. Only the morning light gets right in your face so sleeping late is out of the question. Overall, as a cheap alternative, an acceptable stay if you're not picky.

Hotel location is good cause it is near metro, and tram station is right in front of hotel. Everything in hotel is basic, it is a good place to stay if you want to save money and if you are travelling alone
(I would never bring my girlfriend there)

me and a frd stayed at the hotel for 3 days. We booked it because it was cheapest around central vienna.

The best way to get there is to travel with the airport bus to the West Station (Westbanoff), which is every 30 mins. But since the City Airport Transport is every 30 mins anyway, it is the faster to take the West station bound airport coach. Once arrived at the West Station, you can take U6 and it is only 4 stops away (Alser Strasse).

We were allocated a room on the 5 floor, and it was very very quiet. We found out most of the rooms are toilet and shower facilities combined in one, except our room. (Room 501), so it is larger than average as it is at the end of corridor.

The breakfast is ok and travelling to Central Vienna takes at most 15 minutes. If you are hungry, there's a McDonald just opposite to Hotel.

Overall, I'm quite happy with my choice, and as long as I get the same room, I'm happy to stay again

Hello,

Me and my boyfriend spent 3 nights at DonauWalzer in March 2008 and we enjoyed it.
It's a good hotel for people who are interested in a budget vacation.
Great breakfast, very rich. Clean rooms, small indeed but comfortable. The staff was very nice to us, I had a small accident at breakfast one morning, I stumbled on the stairs and felt and they jumped right away to help me, to provide ice and so on.
We asked for a hairdryer and it was brought to our room right away.
The hotel is very close to the metro and is easy to get back to from every point in Wien.
We enjoyed our staying there and we would recommend it to people who want to have a nice vacation at a small price.

  • Liked — The location of the hotel and the breakfast
  • Disliked — Very small toilet room and the fact that all the smell from the toilet goes into the room.

We stayed at the Donauwalzer for a week. It is near public transport (5 minutes walking; U6: Alser Strasse is the nearest stop) & a good buy for a budget stay in Vienna! And a good location for seeing the city. The neighbourhood around the hotel isn't the best but it's not dangerous or anything...it just doesn''t look very nice & some scruffy people here and there late at night....and young people since there are a few bars around & McDonalds!

We were with 3 people and stayed in room 305; a nice room with a bathroom (clean & spacious enough) & a toilet (clean & normal size). The room itself was clean & the beds were good (sometimes you can feel the spirals of beds in cheap hotels.....not on this bed!). There was enough space to put away your clothes & the tv worked.
We got new towels everyday (a small one & a bigger one for each person & 1 towel for in the bathroom.) They didn't change the bedsheets though...

The room is at the front & since the hotel is located at a corner of busy streets & opposite the bar B72. So if you open the windows there is lots of traffic noise & on the weekend noise of the bar (when we were there there was a concert outside so a large group of people with live music...you can guess...). We were there in August during a very hot week...the fact that we couldn't open the windows for some fresh air at night was a bit annoying. There are of course rooms that aren't at the front so I would ask for that if you're staying there in the summer.

The staff were friendly & helpfull. Breakfast was a buffet with toast, bread, orange / vitamine juice (not fresh), milk, coffee / tea, muffins, cereal, scrumbled eggs, cooked eggs etc...the general buffet breakfast.

In short: this hotel is highly recommendable for anyone who wants to stay at a location near central Vienna for a very good price....it's a cheap hotel with good service and a nice breakfast; but ask for a room that's not at the front if you want to sleep with the windows open!

And a tip: if you're flying with Austrian Airlines you can check-in your luggage in the city centre...so you won't have to get your bags at the hotel at the end of your stay (if you''re flying at the end of the day / in the evening)...now that's customer service!

The only reason to choose this hotel is the location near the metro stations. As I've understood the hotel proposes 2 solutions, the cheaper one (~61 EUR/night for a double) is unacceptable. I mean: very poor breakfast, room service doesn't work well, wc separated from the bathroom (both are very small, dirty and ugly).

Dear Mrs/Mr.
first of all thank you for taking the time to write this comment on the hotel. I am sorry, that we could not fulfill all your expectations - still I want to clarify/mention a few things.
What was not satisfactiory for you at the breakfast buffet?
We offer far more then it is foreseen by the rules for Austrian 3star hotels: we have several kind of sausages, scrambled eggs, fruit salat, lots of breads, cereals, fish, cakes, different jams, ...and even hot chily.
Lots of people come to us especially for the very rich breakfast buffet.
I am sorry that in this point we could not work to your satisfaction.
Concerning the room service: as a 3 star hotel, we do not offer room service - all wanted things can be got a the 24hrs open bar. We serve to the rooms if the work and other guest allow us to do so, as a complimentary service.
Also you mentioned the separated bath and toilet: This is in Austria a sign of quality. By and by we will separate ALL out bath rooms from the toilets. This is in Austria considered as more hygenical and clean (especially in double rooms) than to have them together.
We are sorry, that this presented a major ussue for you.
I hope to have been able to explain you a few point and am at your disposal.

I was terrified after reading some of the reviews. However the hotel pleasantly surprised me. The room were clean and the breakfast was very satisfactory. We were lucky that our room was not facing the road and thus it was absolutely quiet. The hotel could benefit from a better service as sometimes the staff was not exactly welcoming. But overall it was OK and I would advise you to look forward to your stay in this hotel if you booked it.
