K+K Hotel Maria Theresia
Ranked #40 of 359 Hotels in Vienna
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 October 2008

We chose the Maria Theresia because of the good rating in Trip Advisor and we weren't disappointed. We spent 5 nights there and much as I try I can't find anything to complain about.

The staff are all excellent, especially the Reception Staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Others have mentioned the outstanding buffet breakfasts which is served from 6.30 till 11 so ideal for those who like a lie in.

The room was well appointed and they've just started providing tea and coffee in the rooms which is a big plus. They're quite happy if you use the minibar as a fridge.

OK so there are only 3 English language channels (BBC World News), BBC Prime and CNN but that was enough for us.

The bistro bar provides reasonable snacks (the mixed ice creams are great for two to share) and Vladimir the barman is very friendly and helpful.

There are several computers for free internet access including one in the business centre although I found the German keyboards difficult to use. Z and Y are reversed.

Unless you're travelling light and know the city I wouldn't recommend using the train to get to the hotel from the airport as although it's easy to find once you know the way there are a lot of steps for luggage and a change.

There are lots of companies offering shuttle and limousine transfers from the airport. We booked online with a local company called "Airport Driver" (www.airportdriver.at) who charge 29 Euros each way. You just give them your name and flight details and the driver is there with a card with your name on it. You don't even have to pay in advance.

The 29 Euros was well worth it given that the train would have been 9 each plus the hassle of finding the hotel with luggage.

There are plenty of good restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel mainly on and just off the Burggasse. Most of these are frequented by locals. Just ask at reception.

I agree that the Vienna card is good value. Buy it at reception before you set off on your first day and you get unlimited travel for 72 hours and reduced rates on loads of museums, concerts etc.

We just came back from our vacation in Austria. We spent 4 nights in Vienna. The K & K was fantastic. All the reviews that I read were so true. Good location, clean, modern rooms, very friendly staff & great breakfast! Yes, you should hand your key in before you leave the hotel..
.and yes they are a challenge to use. My boyfriend & I would have contests to see who could open the door faster. But I loved Vienna and would go back again and stay at the K & K. We bought the Vienna card and rode the subways (very easy & clean) and street cars. I'd be happy to answer any questions. Vienna is very user-friendly.

Loved this hotel tucked away on a side street yet in easy walking distance to all the main attractions in Vienna. Wonderful breakfast buffet and several cute restaurants within a 2 block walk. My good experience here would cause me to use the K + K chain in other European cities. Excellent place.

Stayed at the kk Maria Theresa for three nights in early October. The reception forlks were great, helpful. The rooms were very comfortable, clean, and modern. As mentioned, the Hotel was a little difficult to find but was well located by the Museum Quarter. I'd recommend or go back when in Vienna.

The K+K Maria Theresia hotel is a good place to stay in Vienna if you would like to stay outside of the 1st district. It is located near the Museums Quartier (7th district), and the central part of the city is easily reachable by foot or by subway a few blocks from the hotel. The hotel is clean, simple, with modern furnishings. The Spittleberg area around the hotel is quiet with many design studios and several restaurants on the adjacent blocks. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful.

The breakfast buffet offered each morning is excellent, with eggs, breakfast meats, beans, and tomatoes, as well as many cold items, such as fruit, yogurts, cereals, breads, rolls, lunchmeats, cheeses, juice and sparkling wine. The salt sticks are particularly tasty.

My only minor complaint about the hotel are the unusual keys which are sometimes difficult to work, and which you have to return to the front desk every time you leave the hotel. Additionally, I feel the hallways could use some additional updating. Other than that, this hotel is fine place to use as your base in Vienna.

We stayed at the Hotel Maria Theresia in Vienna between 2nd - 6th October 2008. What a fabulous hotel. I was visiting my family in Vienna after many years and reception took the time out to find me when I was not in the room. Reception was very efficient and polite, the room was fine as was the bathroom and very clean. The breakfasts were scrumptious with everything available that any nationality could wish for. I even had a glass of champage one morning and breakfast time is from 06.00am until 11.00am with lovely food still available later on in the morning. We did not eat at the Hotel in the evening but good food was available to eat in the bar. The Hotel is down a lovely quiet road in the Spittleberg District of Vienna where there are lots of good restaurants. Walk to the Opera House and take a hop on hop off bus around Vienna and a visit to Schonbrun is a must especially the Apfulstrudel Cafe!

We just returned from a two week trip to Prague, Budapest and Vienna. We stayed four nights at the K+K Maria Theresia in Vienna, and I must say overall it was a very positive experience. This was our first experience with the K+K chain of hotels and they seem very well managed.

As others have commented the location is ideal. We took the train from Budapest to Vienna Westbahnhof Station. There we bought Vienna Cards from the Austrian Railways (OBB) office in the station for 18.50 Euro (versus 24-hour U-bahn ticket 5.70 Euro; 72-hour U-bahn ticket 13.60 Euro; Single ride U-bahn tickets 1.70 Euro). You can take U3 (Orange Line) in direction Simmering a few stops to the Volkstheater station, exit the station onto Burggasse, walk maybe 100 yards along Burggasse, turn left onto Kirchberggasse to the K+K Hotel (five minute walk). It could not be easier. The trip outbound by U-bahn and commuter train to the airport was equally easy and cheap.

We had one of their “Executive” king bedded rooms (two twins together to make a king). It was quite adequate size as was the bathroom (more space than the K+K denoted “Classic” room in Prague). It was immaculate and quite functional (heated bathroom floors!). Beds were very firm – almost too much so. We took advantage of a direct K+K online “Early Booker Rate.” Our room appeared quite new and faced a quiet courtyard. The 4th floor rooms with a city view face east and overlook a fairly busy street (with a frequent tram). Plus the window opened wide for fresh air. Our room was non-smoking, but several times the hallway smelled strongly of smoke, and one night I was awakened at 3 AM by the very strong smell of cigarettes – wafting in our room from the courtyard. But overall for an ardent non-smoker the property was quite accommodating.

The breakfast was simply great. The brekfast room is a separate, all non-smoking room right off the lobby bar area. Everything was fresh and constantly restocked. The front desk and breakfast service staff were very friendly and quite helpful. Free internet access just off the lobby.

The location is ideal – with the Vienna Card, we hopped on and off a tram, bus or the U-bahn and went everywhere. You can get to the center of the old city in 5 minutes by U-bahn but be away from all the commotion and loads of tourists in and around Stephansplatz. There is a Billa market about four blocks from the hotel on a very nice commercial street.

Vienna is really a beautiful city – full of charm and history and none of the pretention of Paris. The Fine Arts Museum is open late (9 PM) on Thursdays and is simply gorgeous in the evening. It is a short walk from the K+K.
