Well trained, caring, pleasant staff. Free wif-fi (and a Mac machine in the foyer with a printer if you need...). Seems the only upgrade room are non-smoking but the staff kindly foung Room 312 for us with a balcony, table, and chairs outside to use....
Air-con worked fine for upper 30's outside. Location useful (near U2 station) - but don't even think of walking from Vienna Mitte if you come on the CAT from the airport, splurge on a U ticket at €2 each (and anyway consider the S7, each alternate 15 minutes, nearly as fast and very good). Internal courtyard looks a bit like a SupeMax with the fire escapes but very quite and pleasant internal courtyard.

Room Tip: Room 312 ppossibly best upgrade - has a French door onto an internal courtyard balcony with a table...

Stayed just for two days, where most time was spent on the streets and tourist attractions of Vienna. So not much of an opportunity to 'utilize' the hotel services. Nevertheless, good experience overall!!

This 4* hotel was nothing more than ok. When we arrived at the hotel at about 11am the concierge seemed very annoyed by us asking cuestions about check in time, parking or internet in the hotel. The rooms are a bit small. At our mini bar we got a present from the last guests that stayed in our room and even though it was taped when we got there. The bathroom was newly renovated and looked nice, clean towels of course. The internet connection is horrible! You get a log in and a password valid 3 days but it disconnects every 15 minutes, and the signal is very bad. The breakfast was great, very diverse. The location is pretty good and the parking the hotel provides is very small, looks like a drive-in basement (filled with old matracess and stuff).

Room Tip: Most of the rooms overlook the closed backyard so it's pretty quiet in the rooms.

Here's the thing - in general my husband and I are very much in favor of IBIS hotels, the reason is simple - regardless the country and the city they are more or less the same, so you know what to expect. But this deal was so good (we paid 555 EUR for 8-nights stay) considering the location, that this time we decided to try Mercure Josefshof.

It's located in the residential area of the city; and it's within 5 to 20 minutes walking distance from the underground station, the Rathause, MuseumsQuarties and Mariahilfer street (the main shopping street).

Judging by the exterior I did get an impression that there were two different hotels before - Mercure was newer and the one where the main entrance is - comparably older.
I have no idea what's happening in the "older part" of the hotel, but "Mercure Privilege" (as it was written on the signboard outside and the elevator) was really modern and really nice!

The room was actually small with the view to the courtyard (probably it was the courtyard, I never really actually looked out of it) but it was done with the taste! Everything was in its place - except for the TV. It hung on the wall and you could adjust its position, but although I pushed it maximum to the wall, first couple of days every time I passed by it, I was afraid I'd hit my head against it. Got used to it quite soon though.

The bathroom was VERY INTERESTING! Loved the color of tiles - tint of rust. And shower (with this rain effect) was great - I didn't minded that there was no tub at all! Most importantly - the room was cleaned every day, not just made-up.

There was a problem with the room door though - sometimes it was hard to open and I almost bruised-up my shoulder and hip trying to push it open. When we told the reception about this problem they even offered us to change the room, but we didn't think it was the best idea, so they just fixed the lock the next day.

In the beginning we couldn't figure out how the AC worked but then realized that it automatically went off if the window was open (another surprising discovery of going green).

One more thing - before coming to Mercure Vienna we stayed a few nights in Mercure Budapest and although Mercure in Budapest wasn't bad, it can't even be compared to Viennese one!

All in all both my husband and I were very satisfied with the hotel. If we decided to go to Vienna again, we definitely know where to stay.

Room Tip: If you can't get the AC on, just close the window :)

This hotel lacks in so many ways.First of all, the neighbourhood is a bit suspect. The nice brochure in the room about sextourism should have been a tip off. The parking is pathetic. No spaces at the hotel; had to walk 15-20 minutes from parking...and it was 32 Euro a night! The so called air conditioning was awful. Had it on highest fan and lowest temp setting..woke up in soaked in sweat. Funky light switches...one switched controlled three lamps and wouldn't let just the night table lamp stay on.The tub was very high...good thing I wasn't elderly because it would be very hard to get into. Overall, I hated this hotel and would never come back here again. The people at the desk were useless as well. An embarrassment for such a fine city.

Very close to the city center just behind the Rathaus. U2 subway and Tram 2 stations are just a 100 m away. The hotel is in Josefgasse which is a silent street. Take U2 to get in the metro network and Tram 2 to Karlplatz or Schwedenplatz. The hotel seems old in photos and outside but I liked the rooms a lot. Our room has a high ceiling, old type but good furnitures. The bathroom instead is very modern with a huge tub. I didn't tried the breakfast. The room is also quite big with a sofa in comparition with the similar ones. It was clean enough but I give the only negative point to the housekeeping. The lady neither filled the shampoo nor changed the towels even I put on the other side. In a nutshell If you want to be near to the city and get all for what you payed I suggest this hotel for you.

Excellent location. In walking distance of Hofburg and Museums Quartier. Close to the metro station. Quiet, clean and with excellent staff. The bathroom was modern, but the room was a little dated in my opinion. We found the breakfast quite expensive (16e per person). Overall, it was a very nice hotel and I would surely recommend it.
