I was told that this hotel is student accommodation used as a hotel during the holidays, so I went with that sort of expectation. I had booked a triple and a double room, but then I emailed them to ask for two single beds in the double room (I booked through travel republic and a double was a fair bit cheaper than a twin), and they replied and said that that would be fine. When we arrived I was informed that that request would not be possible, but they offered us two single rooms instead of the double with no price change, which I felt was a very considerate gesture. I shared the triple room and I can't really complain at all, it was clean, the beds were quite comfortable and we had a room with a toilet and a bath/shower and sink separate to the toilet. There was enough room for the 3 of us and our stay was comfortable. Breakfast was 6 Euros per person, and when we went to reception on our first morning to pay for it we were told to pay in the breakfast room. There was no one there in the breakfast room for us to pay - on all 3 mornings. Therefore all 5 of us had breakfast for free and I'm glad of the fact because what was on offer was not worth 6 Euros at all. There was bland cereal, bread with either honey or hazelnut spread, hard boiled eggs, some continental breakfast stuff (ham, cheese, yoghurts etc.) and hot drinks. The juices were more like squash than juice (I was told, I didn't have any). There was free wifi in the lobby only, but there were plenty of sofas there so we could sit and use our iphones. On our last day we left Vienna on a night train to Florence, and there was space for us to leave our luggage for the day, which was great for us because it meant that we could do more sightseeing on our last day without being burdened with our luggage. Vienna is a very nice city and I would definitely recommend a visit. The Academia Hotel is not very central, it's about a 10 minute walk from the Rathaus but if you're looking for somewhere reasonably priced and are willing to walk a bit and use public transport then it's fine. There is also a nice pub down the road (called Strozzi Cafe), if you walk south east for the hotel it's the first corner on your left on the next block. It does good food and beer and we used it more than once, and I would definitely recommend it.
