Only stayed here for one night, but would recommend to all. There is a lot of building work nearby, so the front is covered in a scaffold, which makes it a little hard to find (but we didn't hear any noise at all). Once inside, we were met by a very friendly, helpful receptionist with perfect english for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. The actual location is in the Old Town, and we were able to walk to all the major sites as well as finding nice restaurants nearby.
We had booked a twin bed room and one of the beds was actually a chaise lounge rather than a bed, but was still comfortable. Also, we chose a room with a private toilet and shower down the corridor to save on price and even though the toilet was a few doors away, it was very clean and no problem at all to get to. The actual shower space was quite roomy with plenty of places to put your clothes so they don't get wet.
There is also an option to pre-book a bottle of wine which you then choose from the wine cooler on arrival - and a very tasty local wine it was!
Great breakfast as well - huge range of choice of the usual European selections of meats, cheeses, breads, fruits, yoghurts etc.

Only 3 days staying here but i will say this is a lovely, clean and well maintained hotel.

Our room was not small but very comfortable. It includes the breakfasts daily which were very nice and served at top quality.

Location is good. Easy to reach to opera house or anywhere else.

In the end, we are happy.

First of all, I must start by saying that whatever good things you hear about this hotel is... TRUE!... so by all means stay here if you are in Vienna! This place exudes the warm magic of an era gone by.

Location: The hotel is excellently located, just minutes away from the very-central Stephanplatz on one side, and a short walk to the metro-station and tram-stop on the other. Being tucked away into a dead-end lane, it is quiet and 'far-from-the-madding-crowd' at the same time - which is just our idea of how a hotel should be!

Rooms: the rooms are large, airy and beautifully decorated. As with all places in Vienna, there is a profusion of art-prints by Gustav Klimt, with the famous "Der Kuss" being visible most often. There is no air-conditioning, though, which is something my wife atleast wasn't prepared for :) - it wasn't uncomfortable at night, but during the day in summer the lone pedestal-fan in the room was at times insufficient. The public parts of the hotel (terrace-garden, winding staircase etc) all exuded old-world charm. Look at the pictures and judge for yourself!

Staff: Now this is where the Hotel Austria really packs a punch! :) - they have EXCELLENT (Notice the all-capitals!) staff. And I cannot say enough about them. The warmth with which we were greeted at check-in and wished on our one-week-old marriage, was one example. The patience and warm smile with which they answered all our questions (and we had many!) about Vienna and sightseeing and the Vienna-Card etc etc etc is another example.

Small gestures sometimes go a long way in making lasting memories.
a. Upon arrival, having known that we were on our honeymoon, the hotel presented us with a box of chocolates. Gestures like this don't cost much in monetary terms - but it surely made us feel nice :-) .
b. Till this day, I regularly receive their monthly newsletter talking about happenings at their hotel and in Vienna in general. In today's digital-marketing world, this would not come as a surprise to any of us - however, the way their newsletter is designed and presented, with news about their staff (people you have interacted with, and remember for their friendliness) makes it that much more personal.

The Hotel Austria is a charming place to be in - I highly recommend you consider staying here on your trip to Vienna.

Hotel Austria is located in a quiet but central part of Vienna. The staff was very friendly and serviceminded. The breakfast was lovely. We were 3 persons sharing a room. The room was big enough for the three of us, and the bathroom was very good. The shower had good waterpressure. I liked the small mirror for us with poor eyesight. I thought the bed was a bit hard, but my friends thought the beds were good. Nice, big pillow. I would certainley choose this hotel again, but perhaps not when it is very hot (as mentioned by other TA's)

Not the most luxurious hotel where we have been, but for some reasons we liked it more than others. Firstly, for the location in Wien: It is in Fleishmarkt Strasse, which is at 2 minutes walk from Saint Stephen Cathedral and the historical centre, and in addition to that, it is in an inner street allowing silence and - for us - safe and free parking for our motorbike.
Secondly, the staff was warm and friendly, multilanguage (there also was a concierge from Rome) and constantly trying to ease your stay, giving advice and sincere smiles.
Thirdly, the breakfast, way nicer than that of higher category hotels: we found a proper ratio of sweets. for example. They have a coffee machine producing a super delicious coffee anche chocolate, very creamy! They offer excellent bread and croissants.
The rooms were not the most recent ones, but anyway, no complaint at all to do! Also, the hotel was established in the 50s but it has been subject to various renovations. Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated, and the bathroom clean and functional.
There was a free high speed connection in the hotel!
Finally, one of the best hotels for quality/price ratio we have ever been to!
If we should return to Wien (a WONDERFUL city, by the way) we would stay again in this hotel. Ottimo sul serio!
Price was 119 euros per night.

We were driving from Prague with two kids and planned to stay in this hotel for 2 nights. First, there is no way you can get the car to the hotel's doors -it's in the courtyard which is off the road,so you have to drag all your luggage on the streets. The only available parking is a garage nearby. Staff didn't even try to offer help to get luggage to the room, so we had to take it upstairs again just to get to an elevator. The room was small, but seemed clean. The "funny" part was that when we finally got to the floor, it stank of paint (including room). My sons have asthma; I've asked to change the room, but the answer I got from the guy at the reception was "Nothing I can do. They just finished work 30 min ago. If you don't like it, you can leave..." Very "nice" way to run a business. Anyway we left in 20 min and found a very good hotel just in 5 min walking distance. And just not to be picky, but it should be better dusted in the hall downstairs.

Management response:Responded 25 August 2010

Yes, it is right. On that particular day we renovated 3 bathrooms. Unfortunately the workmen left the room doors open after finishing their work. Our front desk staff wasn't aware of the stank until we received this complaint. We immediately closed the doors and opened the floor windows, but it took around one hour until the stank disappeared.
As above travellers were the last guests to check in and the hotel was completely booked, we were unable to change the room and the only possibility was to look for another hotel. We really regret this discomfort.
We are located in a quiet courtyard, which is a pedestrian zone. Parking is not allowed, but loading and unloading the car is possible any time. We offer parking in a nearby garage, in Vienna's heart of town it is not possible to park on the street longer than 2 hours.
