The location of Arte Vida is amazing. It's in a little square in the Innerstadt, and you have to look very hard to find the name on the door of the place. You go up a tiny elevator to get to the main desk. The room was good size and the facilities quite nice. Breakfast was excellent. The folks at the main desk were very helpful.

The location makes this place. It is within 3-10 minutes walking to the Albertina, Leopold, Kunsthistoriches, Hofburg, etc. It also doesn't cost a ton.

My only concern would be staying here if it happens to be hot in the summer as there was no A/C in the room.

This hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the city. It is close to the cathedral and the pedestrian plaza, with a short walk to the opera house. We were on the top floor in a room overlooking the plaza. This was very large but not so clean - I dropped a pen and it rolled under a bedside table, when I got down to get it - yuck! I was very careful after that not to drop anything! It turned me off the place. The soft furnishings need replacing as they are old and discoloured. The room had no cooling so at night we had to open the windows and this made it very noisy. The downside to staying so close to the city centre.
The staff were excellent, very helpful especially when the elevator broke down on our last day and we had to carry our luggage down all those stairs! They never complained and kept a sense of humour about it. Very small breakfast room but good food, freshly made.

The service was EXCEPTIONAL! We travel internationally every year and have not encountered this level of service. Friendly and helpful from the first email, arranging everything we needed. It is clear that for this staff, service is an artistic endeavor.

The location was PERFECT! Right off the two pedestrian shopping streets, two blocks from the opera and other transportation. An easy walk to the Hoffburg complex where we saw the Vienna Boys Choir and the Lipanzer Stallions.

Breakfast was excellent - eggs with ham, meat and cheese, a large variety of baked goods, fresh fruit salad, coffee, tea, hot chocolate. They arranged for transportation, gave advice on sightseeing & shopping, mailed postcards.

The room was a good size. We were in a triple room (305). Beds were comfortable. WiFi was strong in the room. We had one bed with split mattress and a third bed. We slept well except for a couple of warm nights. The staff was very helpful in providing a fan.

The bathroom was small with a pedistal sink and shower only - fine for us. We were impressed with the strong water pressure - a huge plus after a day of walking!

Trip Highlights...
1) Opera - La Boheme at the state opera house - breathtaking. We also watched the live opera on a large screen outside the opera house every other night.
2) Klimt - "The Kiss" at Belvedere & "Beethoven Frieze" at the secession building
3) Coffee houses - Cafe Mozart (mozart torte), demel cafe (cold chocolate), Hawelka (apple strudel), Cafe central (elegant, piano music), Landtmann (Freud's preferred), HOtel Sacher (Sacher torte in the small blue room...
4) Schonbrunn - after the tour of the rooms (free audio guide a must), pay to take the train around the grounds. Can get on and off at will. The train picks up again after 30 minutes. Pay to go to the top of Gloriete. Great 360 degree view of vienna. We also ate there and the food was excellent.
5) Vienna boys choir (got seats for 5 euro when arrived. sat on right hand side, 1st balcony toward the door. This room is enclosed and you can see into the church through open windows. Sound was good. Could actually see the uppermost balcony and some of the boys! Went downstairs at the end to see the boys sing their last song at the alter.
6) Hoffburg complex - the royal apartments and the dishware where my favorite parts of this complex. Also enjoyed a meal at the Palmhaus overlooking the gardens. Sisi museum was a little tabloid-like but had to go through to see the rest of the royal apartments.
7) Swarovski - door is across from the door to the hotel. We each bought earings here to remember the trip. Beautiful displays...worth a browse if not a purchase.
8) St Stevens of course.
9) Gardens, gardens, gardens...

Wish list for future trips
1) Famous homes - mozart, freud, etc
2) Prater
3) Boat ride on Danube

We stayed for 3 nights, Wednesday 17 - Saturday 20 April 2013 in a large double room. We chose this hotel as we were looking for an affordable and hopefully charming hotel in the Innere Stadt (1st district) and Pension Aviano successfully ticked all the boxes. It is a delightful small family run hotel with just 17 rooms.

The hotel is very centrally located on a short pedestrian side street off Kärntner Strasse and with Neuer Markt, with the Kapuzinerkirche, at the other end of the street. It is located between Stephansdom and the Opera House both of which can be reached with an easy 5 minute walk from the hotel. The Hofburg is also a 5 minute walk away. It is surrounded by restaurants and shops. Its excellent central location meant that we walked everywhere, apart from when we visited the Schönbrunn.

We found it easy to get to the hotel on public transport. From the airport we took the S7 train then changed to the subway U3 to Stephansplatz station. A single ticket cost 4 euros. From the station it was an easy 5 minutes walk along Kärntner Strasse, a pedestrianised shopping street, to the hotel. The directions on the hotel’s website are very easy to follow. The entrance is next to the Reiss Bar and then it’s a few steps to the lift. The hotel is a pension meaning that it occupies part of a building, in this case the 5th and 6th floors. When we arrived we took the lift to the receiption on the 6th floor and were warmly welcomed. We were very pleased with the curtious and friendly service we received throughout our stay.

We had a large double room with its own living room area overlooking an internal courtyard. We were delighted with our room as at the back of the property it was very quiet, although we were in the city centre, and we did not mind not having a view. The room was very clean and extremely comfortable. For a European city centre hotel it was very spacious. On entering we had a living room with sofa (which could be converted into a sofa bed), 2 arm chairs, 2 small tables 1 which was ideal for putting the suitcase on, a desk with chair, chest of draws, flat screen television with a number of channels but I think with only 1 English channel and a mini bar. There was then an open door way into the bedroom which consisted of a double bed, 2 bedside tables and large wardrobe. The en suit bathroom had a walk in shower cubicle with a constant supply of hot water, sink, toilet and hairdryer. There was also a safe in the room for which there was no additional charge. The room itself was traditionally and beautifully decorated with chandeliers, mirror and a very useful coat rack. There was also good wi - fi access in our room. The room was unbelievably good value for the price we paid.

We were booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast is served in a small breakfast room next to the reception. The self service buffet consisted of a good range of cold food including cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, bread, cheese, meats, tomatoes, cucumber, pastries and fruit juices. There was friendly waitress service for hot drinks and also the option to have eggs cooked to order. The hotel does not offer any other meals but free tea and coffee are available from the breakfast room during the afternoon, but we didn't use this facility.

Overall we adored this utterly charming hotel and were sad to leave. We would have no hesitation to return and would definitely recommend it to others.

Room Tip: The larger rooms with seating area are very comfortable and would recommend booking one of those if...

This would be our 4th stay at Pension Aviano and I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. One of the big pluses is that, since this is a small, family run hotel, there is very little change/turnover of the staff. Each time we come, we are greeted by the same friendly, helpful, efficient, and curteous people. As soon as we walked in the door we were warmly greeted and everyone remembered us and our name. This service and treatment isn't given only to return customers like ourselves. I see it given to all customers.

The location can not be any better. We basically reserve the same room every time and it overlooks the Kaertnerstrasse and is large, sunny and comfortable. The breakfast is super and you are attended and waited on by the friendly and cheerful staff. On your breakfast table is a card with the weather forecast and helpful suggestions on what to do for the day (in German and English). A very nice touch.

A great value and a great place to stay. We will return.

I was in a single room (room 417) which I found to be very clean and comfortable. I expected the room to be smaller, luckily it was quite OK. The window is overlooking the inner yard, so the room is very quiet. The bed was comfortable and I had a good night’s sleep. Toilet is clean, yet a little bit small. The breakfast was quite good, a variety of food and drinks available. I liked a lot of small details that puts a smile on a guest face: from personalized welcome note with Vienna highlights for the days of your stay to the weather forecast printed in a breakfast area. For the price, this is probably the best accommodation in Vienna center. Would recommend a single room in this pension to anyone.

Our stay was wonderful, the staff was so helpful and welcoming, and we were sad to leave. We would recommend you book early as it is very full during the Winter Ball season. Another great plus is that is very close to all the main sites that one would wish to visit in the city centre. Beware that not just in the Austrian Mountains it does snow very hard in Vienna.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely but a view from the front of the hotel are superb try for room 303

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for writing a review about our house.
We are pleased to hear that you had such a lovely time in Vienna. Yes, it gets rather full during the ball season, especially on the weekend.

We hope to welcome you again.
