We were recommended to this restaurant and were not disappointed. We wanted to sample two Austrian dishes - Wiener schnitzel and Tafelspitz. Both were excellent and reasonably priced compared to other restaurants serving the same. Plachutta has a number of restaurants in Vienna, but this review only deals with their restaurant called "Gasthaus zur Opera" on Wallfischgasse, two minutes' walk from the State Opera House. This restaurant has outside seating (which is under cover if it rains), or spacious seating inside. I recommend that you book in advance as they are popular and were busy on the two weekend lunchtimes when we visited. Dress is smart casual and there is a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Portions of the above two dishes were generous - one portion of Tafelspitz was enough for both my wife and myself and the restaurant was perfectly happy for us to share it. The service was good too. I would happily return there on a subsequent visit to Vienna.
