“Great Option and Excellent Value”
Reviewed 25 December 2013

Having stayed in Vienna MANY times and in various hotels, I can say that this is definitely one of the best options and clearly the best value in this city in which hotels can be relatively expensive.
It isn't a 'traditional' hotel in the sense of having a restaurant/lounge etc, however, the rooms and service are excellent and location cannot be beat for seeing Vienna on foot and/or via public transport.
The property is within a turn of the century building which has a lot of charm and has been remodeled to very nice standard. Rooms are large with high-ceilings and hardwood floors also equipped with small kitchen so you could cook or buy snacks/drinks which is a nice option. Also, has a very cool old time elevator which has been renovated and has tons of character. You won't find a better 'value' in such a good location for seeing Vienna.

I was travelling with friends in November for the Christmas markets. We booked our room back in July and booked the Grande Suite so we would have 2 bedrooms and a living room. Upon arrival they put us in the Deluxe Suite instead which had one less bed. Upon telling the front desk it turns out they had given our room away and at this point it was 11pm. The front desk person Christian (?) was lovely and helpful (it was his first night) but nevertheless this was disappointing as we had booked a more expensive room and got charged for that whilst being downgraded. Without this mishap the place would have been perfect. I suggest calling ahead to confirm your room.

We stayed a week in the comfort suite. In a nutshell this is a very good apartment which is very convenient if you are on a short trip to Vienna and want a bit more then a simple hotel room. However, we noticed several drawbacks which in total spoil the experience and therefore cannot put a full 5 for the place ...
Now to details.

Pros:
- excellent location (few steps to anywhere !)
- nice old building (the elevator is a masterpiece in itself)
- the management tries to provide you with an exceptional service (nice mini-bar staffed with good quality products, breakfast at one of the best caffes in the city etc)
- see bellow for the other pros :)

Cons:
- our apartment had all windows into a backyard - as a result almost no light and unpleasant smells from the neighboring restaurants' kitchens
- the apartment is not suitable for 4 people, you will not sleep on a sofa (it is in the kitchen !!!) you hardly will have a good sleep there.
- cleaning is very basic (they mainly change a few towels and empty a waste bin), sometimes even forget to add tea bags ...
- the wooden floors are a huge disappointment - they make so much noise that if someone wants go to the bathroom at night all house will be awaken ...
- we noticed some problems with ventilation as it was always very humid and not enough fresh air in the room, but once you open the windows it becomes cold very quickly

Finally, if the management reads this i will dare to give a few suggestions:
- place a sofa or an extra bed to the bedroom there is enough place for that and it will be much better !
- place TV into the kitchen - you will create a normal kitchen/dining/sitting room !
- it will be great if you can provide some sort of food delivery from one of the near restaurants, a menu in the room with a phone number to call for a dinner would be very handy !

Room Tip: Sleeping is possible in bedrooms ! Do not count on sofa as a good sleeping place !

Our family stayed in the grand suite (#421). I liked the elevator, which is something I had only seen in old movies (like "Charade"). The building has a lot of style, and the grand stairway is beautiful. Upon walking in #421, we were struck by the sheer size of the unit. There is SO much space - more than we need, actually. But we didn't mind.

The location is ok. It's about a 5 min. walk to the cathedral, and 5 min. walk the other direction to the ring tram stop or metro station. But there are a few good restaurants right on that street, as well as a supermarket at the corner. So it's convenient.

Our biggest concern is the lack of responsiveness of hotel staff. On the morning after we checked in, we advised the office that the wash basin is clogged and water is flowing very slowly. We also told them about some red hand prints on the hallway wall, and requested for them to clean it up because frankly they look scary. They look like bloody hand prints as someone was falling down. When we returned the first evening, nothing had been done. We asked again the next day - no result. In fact, these issues were never resolved during our stay. This was rather disappointing - given the rate they charge, and how they appear to be a high quality apartment.

We'd also like to share our experience at this apartment. I must say I never experienced anything like this before. I have a feeling this place may be haunted. First indication - the bloody hand prints on the wall. Could it be they couldn't get rid of them? We also heard ticking sounds coming from inside the bathroom walls. (No, it's not near where the switches are.) Just before we left, I was waiting at the foyer while my family was bringing down our luggage. I was the only one in the apartment. Then I kept hearing sounds of cabinet doors closing in the kitchen. I later asked my family if they had shut all the windows - just to make sure it wasn't windows banging shut from the wind. They assured me that all windows were already closed. So to this day, I can't explain where the noise was coming from.

Don't think we'll be coming back.

This property is an apartment building that is run like a hotel in a lovely neighborhood of Vienna, about a 5 minute walk from St. Stephan's Cathedral and all the great shopping and restaurants. Front desk personnel are available at all times and are friendly, competent and very helpful. Our apartment was beautifully furnished and bathrooms appear to be newly renovated. The kitchen is spotless and contains a Nespresso. A small supermarket/convenience store is on the corner. The only suggestion we have for management is to upgrade the mattresses, as they are too hard to be comfortable. This property should definitely be considered as a wonderful alternative to a standard hotel property!

Room Tip: The one bedroom apartments come equipped with an extra bed and there are 2 bathrooms!

I had a wonderful 2 weeks at this hotel. The apartment was spacious, staff friendly and the location was perfect. You could walk to all 1st district sites, come home for a nap and then go out again. We could see St Stephens Steeple out our window. We had a friend stay for a few days so having a small 2nd bedroom was perfect. I loved the romance of the old building and its location just off the main drag. The kitchen offered some good options to eating out all the time. I'll go again.

Room Tip: The apartment with the small 2nd room made it perfect for the occasional guest.
