Owner description: In 1867 in this apartment, Johann Strauss composed the world-famous waltz "The Blue Danube", Austria's "unofficial national anthem"! Strauss lived seven years on Praterstrasse, then a fashionable and elegant Viennese suburban street. His own instruments, furniture and paintings illustrate Strauss's work as a composer, musician and conductor, but the whole presentation brings Strauss close to us in private as well, a man who married three times, an enthusiast at billiards and cards, and a caricaturist. Moreover, there are reminiscences of his other apartments, the Vienna ballrooms and concert halls of his time, and also the other composers in the family circle: Johann Strauss the Elder and the talented brothers Josef and Eduard.

“Not much to see”
Reviewed 25 July 2013 via mobile

One room contains 2 pianos, a violin, a dress and some furniture. Besides that I didn't find anything interesting.
The place doesn't really show how he lived back then.
4 euros for the pleasure.

“You DO need to be a Strauss fan!!”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

Not much celebrates the life and works of Johann Strauss, the son. This museum has done its best to show us some the the Maestro's original music and his famous violin.

There are a few things to see and it is worth the trip, please don;t be put off by location and the McDonald's sign just next to it.

I would not say it is a need to see attraction considering all the things to see and do in Vienna but, if you are BIG FAN - then this will be the best you can do!
