Just off the busy Kaerntnerstrasse area, you can find Neurer Market, which is a quiter place to spend some time. Here you can find a few hotels, few restaurants, bars and the Imperial Crypt located at the Capuchin Church directly on the square.
There is a nice fountain, called the Donner Fountain, which acts as the centerpiece of the Neuer Markt area. Unfortunately, like all other fountains in Vienna, it holds no water at this time of year. The Kapuziner-Kirche (Capuchin Church) is where you can find the most impressive Kaisergruft (Imperial Tombs) - the resting place of entire Royal family through the centuries. This is a worthy attraction for all visitors to Vienna so its very likely you'll find yourself at Neuer Markt at some point during your trip.
We dined at Ferdinant Bar & Restaurant on the square, finding their meat goulash dish worthy of a return visit. Similarly, our breakfast at the Konditorei Oberlaa was also very good. More trendy and contemporary bar and restaurant options were found at the other end of Neuer Markt as well as a useful supermarket under the Neuer Markt Pension hotel. What Neuer Markt doesn't have was an open-market scene like what you can find at the Nacht Markets.
In the end, we enjoyed time spent in the Neuer Markt area and would purposely visit this area again when next in Vienna.
