“Ferris Wheel from 1897”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

One of the highlights of Vienna's Prater amusement park. U-Bahn Praterstern is just outside the main entrance, in the north part of the city. Entrance to the park is free and it is open late into the night. The Riesenrad / Ferris Wheel costs €4.50 or just €4 with the Prater Card. It takes 20 minutes for a complete circuit and takes you to a viewpoint 65m above the city. Built way back in 1897, entrance includes a small museum in the base.

“Old Ferris Wheel”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

The most famous attraction in Vienna's Prater amusement park is the Ferris Wheel from 1897. It rises to 65m providing stunning views of the surrounding city. Entry is €4.50, or €4 if you have a Prater Card. It takes 20 minutes to go around and there is a small museum and café at its base.

“Nice views of the city..”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Riesenrad is the best place to sightsee over the city in Vienna. The views are absolutely wonderful. You can see the Danube City with the skyscrapers and the Danube Tower, the historical city center and also the stadium. The cabins are very well preserved and therefore the atmosphere is an oldie one.. The ride lasts approximatively 40 minutes. The entrance fee is 9 euro and in my opinion, it's worth the money. The best way to get to Riesenrad from the city center is the U-Bahn.. The Praterstern station is 5-minutes away from the Riesenrad. Don't miss this wonderful wheel if in Vienna !

“Worth it to say you've been!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

I went on the wheel as I wanted to say id been on the wheel in the Third Man! It costs €9 but there are combi tickets if you want to see other things at the park. We got a combi ticket for the wheel and Madame tussaunds €22.50. The wheel was fun - views of Vienna are good. Expected to move without stopping but it was a move around, people in, people out of each carriage job. They take your photo before you go on the wheel which is hilarious. A funny photo of you riding in the carriage over the Vienna skyline.

“Not a highlight”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We cycled out to Prater Park (check citybikewien.at for information) expressly to ride the Riesenrad. It is located in/near an amusement park and you have to walk through the amusement park full of overstimulated children to get to it. Once you have paid your 9EUR fee to get on the wheel, you are shunted through a display of the history of the wheel (it is a good story) and then there is the photo op. After queueing up (not a long queue, especially for August), we were put in a cabin with 12 other people and given one go around. While the cabins are quite large, they are not large enough for 14 people who try to crowd around the windows. The view was nice, but since Prater Park is quite a way out of the city center, they were not as good as, say the view from Stephansdom. If you are visiting Vienna with children and want to visit Prater Park anyway, this would be a good activity. I didn't feel like it was worth to effort to get there for the one loop we were given.
