Stephansplatz is truly the heart of Vienna. From restaurants and bars, to shopping and attractions, the area is a great starting point to explore the city. Feeling the brisk autumn breeze against my face and listening to a street performer sing acapella, while waiting for my fiancé to buy a heavier coat (maybe a little unprepared one might say) is one of my fondest memories of not only Vienna, but all of Europe.

This area is a pedestrian mall, free of traffic, but full of people from tourists to local residents. There are familiar stores and places to eat and many souvenir shops. But it is the hustle and bustle of people shopping and walking that make this area exceptional. But it is not just the shopping. As you walk down this shopping street you will come to St. Stephens cathedral with its multi colored roof. Close by you can visit the Mozart house and learn about the composer and at least the part of his life he spent in Vienna. To get a feel for the people in this city Stephansplatz is a good starting point.

This is the nave of Wien, but therefore it is always very crowded and not very useful as a meeting point. Then you should be a little more specific, e.g. "just in front of the main gate of the Stephansdom"

Somehow the area is the centre of the city. You can see many places by landing to this place. Too much rush, sometime even difficult to find place to walk. Lot of shops for coffee and snacks around. Two advises, 1. Do not assume that stephansplatz and area nearby is only attraction. Just walk to places out of crowd and you will find many nice places there. 2, do not waste your time by coming to this place again and again. See it, explore it, take a coffee and move to other places. Btw Do not forget to visit stephansdome and its top.

The square is truly the heart of Vienna. The St. Stephens cathedral dominates the square. The area is bustling with people - mostly tourists. There are a lot of caffes and restaurants, as well as souvenir shops and mostly high end shops. If you want to spend your money, than the square is the right place to do so. If you are on a slightly tighter budget, then wonder into one of the nearer streets and you will find cheaper, yet very good food, shops etc.
