I consider myself a spaghetti aglio aficionado; for an easy, satisfying Italian lunch the dish can't be topped. The dish is probably one of the simplest to prepare, but also one of the easiest to prepare badly. Osteria Strandina knows what they're doing. My dish arrived hot and with just the right amount of garlic and pepper; the scant amount of oil at the bottom of the bowl paired perfectly with the crusty bread and a Grüner Veltliner. My husband raved about his carbonara, as well; light but filling and without an overabundance of bacon.
The staff were very friendly; the interior of the restaurant is cheery and inviting, and our table by the window made for excellent people watching on a sunny afternoon. The prices, by Vienna standards, are more than reasonable, too. As an ex-pat living in Vienna, and with my husband's office but a short U-bahn ride away, this restaurant has been added to our list of favorite lunch spots.
