A lovely quaint hotel, mixing traditional elegance with modern comforts. The days begin with a wonderful buffet breakfast, with something for all tastes, and in the afternoon you can unwind with a complimentary afternoon tea, complete with home made cakes. The staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant to deal with. Whilst not in the heart of Vienna, there are pleasant eateries nearby, and there is a metro station (Volkstheatre) within easy walking distance. We would happily return to this gem.

We booked at this hotel because of all the great reviews and after staying there for 4 nights, I have no idea why anyone thinks this place is so great. Our room (#21 - Helga's) was large, but had the smallest bathroom of any hotel I've ever stayed in (couldn't even sit on the loo without moving the bathroom caddy out of the room). The couch had a big stain on it, the decor was faded, and we were on the side of the hotel which faced the street and were subjected to a lot of street noise. Very small flat screen TV with only one channel in english (CNN). The street side of the hotel has the neighborhood recycle bins so there's always noise from residents dropping off or trucks emptying. We'd recommend staying on the other side of the hotel (view of adjacent appartment wall). The hotel itself is pretty far from the nearest metro stop, and really far from downtown. If it's raining or snowing, it's a really long unprotected trek back and forth to transport. The breakfast and afternoon tea are nice, but there's no concierge service to speak of - although the folks at the front desk were very helpful. Perhaps this is better viewed as a business hotel (if you've got meetings on that side of town) than a hotel for vacation travel.

Dear Suzanne S!

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Of course we can't deny that we are very disappointed for not having met your expactations.

Your comments about the room are very helpful in order to improve upon our quality. We have already arranged for a dry cleaning regarding the couch, we have ordered a set of larger flatscreens and we will add a more detailed info in the rooms as certain shows/series on various channels can be switched over to english language via remote control.

The bathroom of Helgas Room indeed is smaller, the room itself facing St. Urlichs church with 30sqm is providing a lot of comfortable space. Each and every room is not only individually decorated, being accommodated in a 19th century old building all rooms also provide a different layout, meaning size of room and bathroom in relation. We are always happy to take any special requests or preferences.

Being a city hotel and even though providing double glazed windows we cannot control any noise coming from the street.

The nearest underground station can be reached within 500 metres, approx. a 4 minute walk. The city center (Stephansplatz) can be reached within a 30 minutes walk, distance 1.6km (2 stops by underground). A very enjoyable walk by the way as one is passing by the museum district (5min walk), crossing the famous Ringstrasse (10min), walking thru the gardens of the Imperial Palace (15min) before reaching Stephansplatz via Michaelerplatz/Spanish Riding School (20min). We respect your opinion if you consider this far.

Please allow me to mention that being a 4**** Hotel we do not have a separate concierge desk, but we are very happy to hear that our staff at the reception desk was just as helpful.

Again we are very sorry that we could not meet your expectations but we are very thankful for your support in order for us to improve upon our quality and services.

Thank you.

Outstanding hotel, elegant rooms and ambiance, beautifully maintained, excellent and obliging service. Afternoon tea was a true highlight of the day. Staff always more than willing to oblige with dinner reservations, arranging taxis, etc. Elevators provided convenient access to upper-floor rooms, Valet parking was a real plus. Convenient walking distance from major museums and the historic city center, ready access to public transport.

I highly recommend this hotel. Five of us (five women) stayed there in early October. The rooms are lovely, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was the best of the three hotels where we stayed during our trip.

The only difficult part about this hotel is the arrival. It is confusing as you walk in the door and you find yourself facing a wide staircase. The staff are not located near the front door so you have to find the elevator and get to the reception which is located one floor above. Once we got over this hurdle (five big heavy bags) and settled in, we loved the place.

Each day at 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. the hotel staff serve tea with cake in the salon. We had so much fun laughing together and hanging out while we ate as much cake and drank as much tea as we wanted in a very lovely setting.

The breakfast was so, so fresh and delicious--and there was plenty of it.

The staff were incredibly friendly (Peter, Barbara, Michelle, and others whose names I cannot, unfortunately, recall), professional, and helpful.

The rooms were very clean and beautiful. The hotel is very quiet and safe.

The hotel is located on a side street within 15 to 20 minutes (walking) of the museum area. One night two of us did need to walk to the train station and back--and that was even possible but a bit of a hike. Not much to say about the shops right near the hotel but there is a nice grocery store maybe 10 minutes away down the hill.

I loved this place. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: We were all on the 2nd floor and loved our rooms.

Arrival by taxi to the closed door and empty lower lobby gives a bit of a start. However, once you arrive at the reception floor, you begin to see why the hotel is highly rated. Our room was quite comfortable with interesting furnishings and an excellent bathroom. Breakfast was fine with friendly but uneven service. The young lady at the desk, Cosima, cheerfully helped us navigate the neighborhood restaurant availability that can be problematic on weekends. The hotel location is within easy walking distance of many points of interest and public transportation is convenient and efficient. We were very pleased with the overall experience.

We felt very welcome here. Our extra requirements were well taken care of by the reception staff before we arrived. Hotel Altstadt Wien is a highly individual hotel, with contemporary design in a turn of the (19th) century unobtrusive building, situated outside the tourist buzz, in a quiet street, still in acceptable walking distance of the museums. We settled in for a week in an airy, friendly and spacious apartment, which was well kept and clean. We embraced the space and tranquility. After a day of strolling through Vienna one could well unwind by the fire in the lounge with a book or drink & bite. Breakfast had all one could possibly think of and was attended by friendly and attentive staff.
Not over the top, but warm and comfortable…we felt completely at home here.

This is a fun boutique. The rooms are big, individual and very clean. Beds are very comfy. The breakfast is just so sweet and perfect. The staff could not possibly be sweeter, nicer, more capable, and more professional. Just super hardworking people. While everyone was so nice a young lady named Laura who works during breakfast has literally angelic qualities. Always a sincere smile. She stood out. But they all stand out at this hotel.

Dear Shermannj!

Thank you very much for staying with us during your recent visit to Vienna and for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your wonderful comments about our rooms, quality and services really made our day!
I also took the liberty in sharing your comments with Laura, she was only here during the summer doing an internship. Of course she was very thrilled to hear that and she is sending her warmest regards!

Thank you once again for your support and it would be a pleasure to welcoming you some other time in the near future again.
