“5 rotten tomatoes but a brilliant situation”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Let me make clear from start that the 5 rotten tomatoes apply to a hotel rated 5 stars. My review would have been definitely different in a 3 star hotel. So the following is related to the overall picture. If you come from a youth-hostel the hotel is definitely classy but in the stylish Vienna environment it is below average (given the problems it has).
Let me start with the staff. They are friendly but overwhelmed because too little in number (and inefficiently organized).
All the little details that make the difference are missing (calling the customer by his name, remember what he asked for 2 minutes ago).
Generally I would say (my impression) that the manager of that hotel is not aware of the problems of his hotel - we entered by a side entrance (clearly marked as hotel entrance) and stood ... somewhere in the middle of nowhere... staff members passed by (we had 2 bags and it could have been obvious that we were looking for the reception) and did not even great...
As said not a big deal in a youth hostel but a 5* hotel?!
We found the reception and at 5PM the room was not ready... cool, we definitely needed a shower, or better not. In Le Meridien Vienna we almost alert the coast-guard. It seemed some money was saved by asking a trainee architect to design open showers.
In short - the design went wrong and you cannot possibly take a shower without inundating the whole bathroom.
Receptionist was talking about the new AC installed... mmm ours was somewhere between "Freezer" and "Oven" ... impossible to tweak the temperature to an acceptable level.
Queen beds are French-size, you would not expect that in an US-group hotel... at least it could be clearly stated.
Personally I also do not like to soft mattresses but that is personal - on the other hand Vienna is the only Meridien/SPG I have found these kind of mattress.
The visual appearance of the room is nice - for my taste the layout lacks efficiency but again this is very subjective.
In summary the hotel is way to expensive for what it offers.
Let me finish on a positive note : The situation of the hotel is brilliant, many Vienna Landmarks are in walking distance.

Hotel far exceeds payment - staff are accommodating and friendly. Breakfast expensive so go elsewhere - Nache Markt very good. Great location - would definitely stay here again. Gym was great & room had everything we needed - very tech savvy.

Stayed here for a long weekend with the family.
The rooms were well equipt with modern furnishings and comfy beds! Free and minibar wifi in the rooms. Staff were also very pleasant and provided helpful information about what to do and things to see.
There is a small gym available with a few cardio vascular machienes and weights.
Would definately stay here again.

A very good hotel in an excellent location for shopping and sightseeing. Staff, particularly bar and reception, were excellent. The champagne bar was a particular haven smoothly managed by Dominick - a fun place!
Well worth a visit.

We actually cancelled Grand Hotel Wien to stay here because we needed an easily accessible underground parking (and we got it for 30 euros a day or something like that) and space (we got an executive room room with a terrace.) We did not expect much from Le Meridien and indeed we did not get any excitement out of this stay which cost us over 2,000 euros for three nights. It feels like a hospital - long corridors painted in very depressing colours and then suddenly you are hit by very loud music in the lift. The furniture is really cheap, Ikea-style. The ground floor is a a bit messy. Loud music, lost of people moving back and forth, long line at the reception. Breakfast is nothing special. Some staff are trying to be nice but the hotel is not. When I was checking out, I said that this hotel is definitely not a five-star hotel. "We actually do not have any stars," the lady replied. I guess that's true.

Dear „Michael G“,

first of all let us thank you for reviewing your last stay with us at Le Méridien Vienna. Despite your rather negative experiences at our property, we highly appreciate you taking the time to share your impressions with us.

Secondly of course we would like to apologize for not having been able to satisfy your needs or meet your expectations regarding our hotel, respectively the design and the facilities of the hotel.

Undoubtedly the associate´s reply concerning our property´s category definition was not professionally verbalized – we are indeed not specified as a five-star house as the Le Méridien Vienna is actually a Design Hotel. Nevertheless we do definitely meet the demands of a five-star hotel and are also operating on this service level.

We hope you can accept our apologies for any misunderstandings or inappropriate explanations and allow us sometime to convince you of our property.

If you wished to maybe give one of our sister hotels “Bristol” or “Imperial” a try, whose classic design might please you more, then please do not hesitate to let us know, we will be happy to assist you regarding reservations.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards to Moscow,
Nicole Kirchbaumer

Convenient location. 5 minutes walk to the Opera House, and 10 minutes walk to city centre. Nice neighbourhood with a small communal square nearby, where you can sit on the benches to read under the sun. Pleasant, friendly, helpful reception and ambassador staff. Interesting and contemporary lobby design with quirky colour changing bar

Room very spacious, contemporary looking and nice headboard that illuminates with interesting graphics. Good twin beds that allow you to move about without worrying about falling off the bed. Plenty of wardrobe space. Reading lamp is the optimal brightness for comfortable reading. Room and bedsheets very clean

But bathroom cleaning needs improvement--found hair on shower floor. Not enough shower caddy, so everything has to be placed on the floor. Toilet roll at a very odd angle, not within easy reach. Insufficient toiletries given on the first day, but after informing reception, shampoo, shower gel etc were well stocked. They don't give you toothbrush and shower cap but if you ask, they will gladly supply you with them. Very powerful and nice shower with three shower heads: top, middle and bottom. Yet the door and the "catch water" are not water-tight, so take care when showering, otherwise the whole floor will be a bit flooded. Separate big tub for nice soak.

Kettle and assorted teabags plus coffee provided. Free use of drinks in the mini bar, and up to one time replenishment per day. Iron and ironing board provided. Free bottle of water given on the first day and 2 free green apples. Free wifi, quite fast. Plenty of taxis right outside the hotel.

The Moet Cafe serves nice Illy coffee (with complementary vouchers) and delectable cakes and pastries.

Good sized gym, pool and jacuzzi pool. Overall very satisfactory.

When in Vienna I mostly stay at Le Meridien Vienna. It is situated in a very nice area of town and is in walking distance from the city centre. The service level is very good and the hotel staff is making sure that you are having a very good experience.
It is a very stylish hotel with many nice designer elements.
The rooms are held in light colours and are very spacious. The hotel is offering a very good breakfast. Also you will find a very cosy wine bar where you can enjoy quality wines and snacks.
