“Modern, eclectic hotel with an excellent location! ”
Reviewed 28 August 2014 via mobile

Great location! This hotel is right in the heart of vienna in district 1 and steps away from the opera house. If you enjoy a modern twist to a hotel- this is the place for you. Rooms are spacious with a alternate baby blue and pink theme..the main lobby looks like something out of a modern art gallery..hotel staff is super nice and accommodating! The funny part is the elevator which has background music of a zoo with noises of monkeys in the background. All in all a solid hotel for a nice visit to the city.

The hotel was overall good but doesn't meet the standard of other Méridien hotels.
The location is really very very good, close to most of the highlights in Vienna and next to the excelente Kunsthistorisches Museum.
The room was not very big, its decoration was not sophisticated, a bit of show off instead. The bed , supposed to be a queen size, was too small and the pillows were tough. The bathroom was too close to the bed and it was small. A big bath overcrowded what was left of the bathroom. Food was good, but a bit salty, for instance, the scrambled eggs at breakfast. The music in the lifts was too loud.
In spite of this, the hotel is worth staying in if we consider the excelente location, the quietness of the place and the friendliness of the staff.

Room Tip: Maybe a high floor room facing the beautiful Opernring.

tl;dr Perfectly located, comfortable and beautiful hotel.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Meridien for a week, and if it had been up to us we would have stayed longer. It is conveniently located at the Opernring, which is close to everything a first-time traveller to Vienna might want to see. Everything we set out to discover was a casual 15-minute stroll away from the hotel.

From the moment we set foot in the hotel we were greeted by a friendly, attentive staff. They were eager to welcome us and answer any questions we might have had at this point. The hotel's interior design is unique, modern... and a little 'too artsy' for my personal taste–but it has charm.

Just like the rest of the hotel, the rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. Our room had beautiful lighting, free (yet unreliable) Wi-Fi and a minibar that gets refilled daily! Despite not being a large room it magically fitted a spacious bed, a fainting couch (very cool) and a writing desk without awakening claustrophobia, thanks to the humongous windows (which also provided a lot of natural light).

As others have mentioned, the only downside can be found in the bathroom. While being beautiful and providing everything one might want from a shower the lack of a shower door generally results in flooding the bathroom floor. It is an unfortunate downside to an otherwise excellent shower experience and a classic example of how things that look good aren't always practical.

Things the hotel offered, but we did not take advantage of, are a stylish bar and restaurant, a gym and pool.

Everyone who works there is extremely hospitable and cordial. Don't be afraid to ask the staff to help you find your way back to your room... just in case you get lost in between all of the eye-catching artworks in the lobby. It is without a doubt one of the most unique and pleasant hotel experiences I have had.

Location: Directly in the heart of Vienna at the ring street with the famous opera house, Sacher cafe, Kärtner street etc. closeby.
Check in and welcome: Went smooth and fast, staff was very friendly and helpful; we found a parking place for our car closeby (so did not have to pay the car park; valet parking was offered.
Room: Nice light interior design, spacious room, unique designed bathroom.
Gym: In the cellar in a separated area of the public gym. Small, but good variety of equipment.
Check out: Friendly and fast again!

Let me make clear from start that the 5 rotten tomatoes apply to a hotel rated 5 stars. My review would have been definitely different in a 3 star hotel. So the following is related to the overall picture. If you come from a youth-hostel the hotel is definitely classy but in the stylish Vienna environment it is below average (given the problems it has).
Let me start with the staff. They are friendly but overwhelmed because too little in number (and inefficiently organized).
All the little details that make the difference are missing (calling the customer by his name, remember what he asked for 2 minutes ago).
Generally I would say (my impression) that the manager of that hotel is not aware of the problems of his hotel - we entered by a side entrance (clearly marked as hotel entrance) and stood ... somewhere in the middle of nowhere... staff members passed by (we had 2 bags and it could have been obvious that we were looking for the reception) and did not even great...
As said not a big deal in a youth hostel but a 5* hotel?!
We found the reception and at 5PM the room was not ready... cool, we definitely needed a shower, or better not. In Le Meridien Vienna we almost alert the coast-guard. It seemed some money was saved by asking a trainee architect to design open showers.
In short - the design went wrong and you cannot possibly take a shower without inundating the whole bathroom.
Receptionist was talking about the new AC installed... mmm ours was somewhere between "Freezer" and "Oven" ... impossible to tweak the temperature to an acceptable level.
Queen beds are French-size, you would not expect that in an US-group hotel... at least it could be clearly stated.
Personally I also do not like to soft mattresses but that is personal - on the other hand Vienna is the only Meridien/SPG I have found these kind of mattress.
The visual appearance of the room is nice - for my taste the layout lacks efficiency but again this is very subjective.
In summary the hotel is way to expensive for what it offers.
Let me finish on a positive note : The situation of the hotel is brilliant, many Vienna Landmarks are in walking distance.

Hotel far exceeds payment - staff are accommodating and friendly. Breakfast expensive so go elsewhere - Nache Markt very good. Great location - would definitely stay here again. Gym was great & room had everything we needed - very tech savvy.

Stayed here for a long weekend with the family.
The rooms were well equipt with modern furnishings and comfy beds! Free and minibar wifi in the rooms. Staff were also very pleasant and provided helpful information about what to do and things to see.
There is a small gym available with a few cardio vascular machienes and weights.
Would definately stay here again.
