“What a great place to stay”
Reviewed 18 July 2009

We chose Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design from the glowing information on Trip Advisor. It was a perfect base for our 4 night visit to Vienna. The hotel is quiet, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It is well situated on a quiet street, about a 6-minute stroll from the Vienna underground and even nearer to the tram systems which take you swiftly to any part of the city. The staff were so helpful and gave us all the information we needed to add to a most enjoyable city break. We followed one of their evening recommendations and had dinner at the Kristian Monasteri (again just a short stroll away) which was a delicious treat. Breakfasts at the hotel are great with a huge choice of cereals, fruits, cheeses, cold meats and pastries and should easily last you until mid afternoon. Our room (304) was at the front of the hotel and even included a view of St Stephen's across the roof-tops.

Having chosen Vienna as the destination for my 40th.Normally we would go for function over style this trip we decided to be more adventourous and spent 3 nights in The Wein & Design. Rathaus it is most certainly is not. When the Taxi pulled up outside the hotel entrance we thought "Umm!" but from the moment the electronic door opened to the moment we left everything else was seamless. The wine theme is quirky, the hotel design very modern, the staff were polite, friendly ,courteous, and considerate.Their knowledge and selection of wine was "on the mark".We would have no fear recommending the hotel as the base for your stay.

Being 10 minutes walk from the crowded heart of things makes this a perfect location for a hotel. We had a courtyard view, but I imagine even the rooms overlooking the street are quiet, as this is off the main streets. It was hot and the hotel was a cool respite, with excellent air-conditioning in the rooms and public areas. The spare, modern rooms were extremely comfortable and spacious, with soft ambient lighting and use of natural materials such as wood floors and slate floors in the bathroom/shower area.

The staff members were all smart and ready to offer good advice on sites and restaurants. They really made our visit perfect, putting great effort into our myriad requests . . . with right-on tips and suggestions. The kitchen staff were all kind and helpful, even remembering what drinks we had ordered.

The breakfast is a creative, delicious selection of breads, cakes, cheeses, meats & juices.

We will definitely stay here again on the next trip!

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in May, 2009. The ambiance of the hotel is very innovative and modern. The wine tasting in the evening is a great idea and it was nice to see hotel guests welcome friends at their restaurant. The staff was professional and helpful and the air conditioned room was spacious and had comfortable beds. The bathroom was very clever but you did need to be with someone who was your significant other since there was no privacy. Having read the reviews ahead on TA about their amazing breakfast we found this to be true and beyond our expectations. However, having said this, I sent 4 e-mails and made one telephone call trying to reconfirm our reservation and obtain directions to the hotel prior to our departure and did NOT hear from them. The six other hotels where we stayed immediately re-confirmed and sent directions to their hotel. On the day we arrived in Vienna, we returned our car at the airport and from the airport, it took us 4 hours to locate the Rathaus Wien and Design hotel. This was an extraordinarily frustrating experience which could have been avoided if they had RSVP to our inquiry.

During our 5-day stay, the staff had plenty chances to help us with things outside their normal duties. Each time they helped us with a smile and warmth rarely seen today.

If you don't need a scenic view from your hotel/room, you can count in max scores for Location and Rooms too.

They have a small cozy terrace works as an oasis in the city.

Impressive breakfast buffe.

We strongly recommend you to try out the wine tasting menu they offer!

This hotel deserves the high rating that it has. The hotel manager, Martina, went well above and beyond in helping us. The rest of the staff was extremely accomodating as well. This hotel is in a great location for access to the sites of Vienna, English is well spoken, and the hotel as an elegant yet very comfortable feel to it.

We must have found Rathaus through tripadvisor and it was a great decision. First, the location is perfect. We didn't realize just how big Vienna is, but it is an easy city to navigate. We could walk to most sites and the three day Vienna pass made it easy to climb on a tram, bus or the underground when needed.

The rooms are modern and are spacious. The shower with the overhead nozzle was a luxurious treat, they also have a hand held nozzle if needed. The buffet breakfast is additional, but it is really worth it. We couldn't resist going all three days we were there because of all the choices. We actually thought the value worked out because it was substantial enough that we never went to lunch on any of the days. About 3 or 4 pm, we would need a snack, but that is no problem with all the beautiful Viennese pastry shops to stop for a pastry and coffee to revive you.

The staff was particulary attentive, friendly and helpful . We were also impressed with the services they offer for a mid size hotel. We were able to get the three day pass from them and they also arranged for our Mozart concert.

The staff is well versed in wine, which makes sense. They can recommend some of the wonderful local wines. We sat at their bar late one night sampling a few different varietals.

We would definitely return.
