We had dinner here one night and we were very happy with the place. Many of those dining seemed to be locals which is always a good sign. The prices were very reasonable for the area with mains costing around 14 euros. The staff were friendly and the decor simple but homely. We enjoyed the simple Griessnocker soup and also schnitzel and grilled fish.

Went here twice at the beginning of October, having seen it on the Tripadvisor Wien App. It was within three minutes of my hotel (K+K Maria Theresa).

Gasthaus am Spittelberg is a really nice traditional Austrian restaurant, frequented by Austrians and foreigners (like me) in roughly equal proportion. The food is simple, inexpensive, well prepared and it comes at the right time (not too soon, not too long a wait.) The waiters are friendly and helpful and they remember you the next time you come.

It can be busy so come early or be prepared to wait for a table. They'll usually plonk you down at a table by the door to wait for your one to come free.

I enjoyed my two meals there a lot - they were good Austrian meals - but the really outstanding find was the Goulash Soup on the second visit. I'd have happily forgotten the main course (good though it was too) and eaten another couple of bowls of the stuff. Unforgettable !

But no one else mentions this so I hope I have the right place !
Found by happy accident while wandering through Spitttelberg on a chilly Sunday evening . Obliging waiter let us in to keep warm while he finished setting up .
Very good meal at a reasonable price-it filled up (about a dozen tables with some smokers outside) within half hour of our arrival .Brits, Americans , Japanese and Austrians Convivial atmosphere . I have never seen a waiter work so hard and so efficiently while maintaining pleasant demeanour to all. A true proffessional.

Literally just around the corner from our hotel, this little restaurant was a great find. As it was raining and we didn’t want to walk endlessly trying to find a place to eat, we decided to seek out the ambiance of the Spittelberg neighborhood. Being welcomed at the door, we immediately felt at ease. A small restaurant with no smoking allowed and seating for about 30 people, I suggest making a reservation. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The cordon bleu was crispy and tasty with lots of melting cheese. The zanderfilet mit kartoffelsalat was appetizing as well. For dessert we had the Wiener Eiskaffee, which was tasty, and we had the Mohr im Hemd which was good but would have been better if the chef had used Belgian chocolate.

This restaurant was close to our hotel and we stumbled across it when we were looking for somewhere local to eat on our first night. The menu offers a good selection of traditional food, served as massive portions but very tasty and reasonably priced. The waiters were all very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed it so much that we went back there the following night, something we very rarely do. Very nice restaurant in a lovely location. We sat outside both times which was very pleasant as the restaurant is in a pedestrianized street along with other restaurants giving it a pleasant atmosphere.
