Dined here our first night in Vienna.
Seated inside which was lovely, I'd recommend an outside table for a more casual, and relaxed ambience - book ahead.
I was recommended the 300g flank steak, to my surprise. Generally regarded as a cheaper cut, I hope the waiter's primary intention wasn't a healthier profit. Ordered that with a mushroom sauce. Fiancée got the filet, with a chimichurri sauce. Also ordered the hand cut fries and grilled vegetables. We each had a glass of Viennese pinot noir.
We both found it odd to be charged for sides and, particularly sauces, when you're paying upwards of 35 euro per steak.
Complimentary cheese bread and butter is provided first up, nice enough.
Next, your knife selection. More novelty than anything - but a nice touch.
Flank steak - Ordered medium rare, closer to medium. A little chewy to start off with, finished up nicely with some nice rendered fat - pleasant. Mushroom sauce was lovely and saved it.
Filet - Ordered medium rare, closer to medium. Chimichurri sauce was amazing.
I'd personally recommend ordering rare if you're after medium rare, and so forth.
Grilled vegetables and chips - Chips were nice, could have used more crunch - tasted like back home. Vegetables were okay, grilled vegetables, whilst simple, can be really brilliant - these were around par, the minimum you'd expect.
Lastly, dessert.
We had a big lunch, and dessert that accompanied that so we kept things relatively modest. The baked cheesecake was highly recommended by the waiter. Served with some cream on top and a single raspberry. Smooth, light - but nothing overly special to be highly recommended. Just a cheesecake. A nice coulis, or some acidity would take this to the next level and really lift it.
Generous 4, closer to a 3 star than a 5 star, unfortunately. Expensive (we're from Melbourne, and found this pricey when compared to the best steakhouses here), and nothing overly special for the premium you pay.
