I can only emphasize the previous reviews, because every word is all true! My spouse and I recently visited Vienna for 3 nights, and were very pleased at how helpful Josef was with regards to any questions we had about sights, restaurants, trains, etc. in Vienna. He gave us an excellent information booklet with maps and very good recommendations on places to eat and drink. Josef’s son was also able to recommend some very nice clubs and cocktail bars to try. The apartment itself had a very welcoming modern décor, and was cleaned everyday by a maid. The prime location allowed easy access to all sights in Vienna, as well as walking distance to a main shopping area.
Josef made our stay very comfortable from the moment we arrived (finding little chocolates on our pillows) to the moment we left (with Easter treats in hand from the colorful Easter display in the family-run bakery). Every morning at the Walch bakery we were served a lovely breakfast of meats, cheeses, eggs, and freshly-baked breads, along with wonderfully smooth coffee (all included in the price of the apartment)! We were also able to sample some tasty pastries since a plate of them awaited us in our apartment every afternoon.
Our first impression of Vienna has truly been enhanced by our experience at Walch Apartments, and we would highly recommend this option to anyone wanting a friendly, cozy, reasonably priced place to stay in Vienna.

My husband and I spent Christmas in Vienna in December 2005. We enjoyed staying in this family run apartment building owned and operated by Josef Walch. Josef Walch and his family made our first visit to Vienna special by providing us with extra touches such as plates of Viennese pastries/cakes left in our apartment when we returned from daily outings and a small Christmas tree with lights and a gift on Christmas Eve.

Each morning we walked next door to enjoy a traditional Viennese breakfast served in the Walch family bakery-cafe. Breakfast is included in the price of the apartment and consisted of a selection of breads, cheeses, meats, eggs, juice, and delicious coffee.

The third floor apartment was comfortable and clean. A maid came daily to clean the apartment. Another plus for the apartment was the location, which was within walking distance from the Westbahnhof train station. We traveled to Vienna by train, arriving at the Westbahnhof train station, and had no problem walking the short distance to the apartment from the train station. We were delighted to find that we could travel with ease throughout Vienna from the Westbahnhof, via public transportation in our daily sightseeing excursions.

Be sure to purchase the Vienna Card for 16.90 Euros and get free travel on underground, bus, and train for the first 72 hours, plus discounts on museum, guided tours, etc. Ask Josef Walch for a Vienna Card brochure for all of the details.

The Walch family promptly answered all of our emails. After finalizing our reservation, we unexpectedly received a packet of brochures and maps of Vienna in the mail.

We would definitely stay at the Appartementhaus Walch again!

Josef Walch and his family make this apartment more like a home. We are now making reservations to stay there again this coming fall. We were there in June 2004. The bakery-cafe below the apartment, owned by the Walch's, offers a delicious breakfast of meats, cheeses, jam, various breads - more than can be eaten and coffee, coffee, coffee - included in the price. The apartment is comfortable and very clean, a fantastic value for the money. A bakery sweet or such magically appeared on our table each afternoon when we returned to the room. The apartment is on the third floor (second Eurpoean) with a stone circular staircase, no elevator. Joseph can arrange parking in a nearby garage for a fee. The metro is a three block walk providing excellent access to the historic center of town within a couple of stops or to any other area of Vienna.

We enjoy staying in apartments rather than hotels. But we are always wary of the description being more desirable than the reality. This is not the case here. Josef will always promptly reply to any email questions and he unexpectedly sent us Vienna information in the mail (to the US) after booking. I cannot wait to get back to Vienna to see Josef.

We (husband, son and myself) spent a week and a half at this family run apartment building over the Christmas break and can't praise it enough.

We opted for the one bedroom apartment with our son sleeping in the lounge.

The apartment was lovely and clean with a maid coming in to clean daily. It was quiet and only an 8 minute walk from the Westbahnhof train station. We always felt safe coming and going to the metro. There are several good food shops in close proximity to the apartment that sell a good range of wines/beers and quick meals.

We found the prices reasonable given that it was during a peak time. Breakfast was taken in the cafe next-door (also owned by the Walch family) where we were offered a good selection of meats, pastries/breads and cheeses each morning. Our son was made a fuss of by the owners (even though he is almost 6' tall) who would offer him chocolates or cans of drink as he wasn't into the excellent coffee or tea.

Most afternoons we returned from seeing the sights to find a free plate of Viennese pastries/cakes waiting for us in our apartment.

Christmas Eve we received a small Christmas tree with lights, a packet of homemade biscuits each, chocolates and a small gift. It certainly made it feel more like Christmas.

All our emails were answered promptly and although the owners don't speak much English they were always willing to help us out. Several of the daily customers to the cafe are well travelled and speak excellent English and are only too happy to answer any questions

We would definitely stay here again.
