“Almost downtown small hotel”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

We arrived by automobile from northern Italy late in the day. The GPS made finding this almost invisible hotel easy-though parking was the usual european city nightmare. A large city garage just across the very busy Mariahilfer Strasse proved to be as convenient as possible in this congested part of Vienna. We parked in the Das Tyrol reserved spots near the elevator, on level 2 below, and managed our luggage across the busy Mariahilfer Strasse and up the few steps to the Das Tyrol lobby. No porterage was available ( and none also when we departed). This is not a hotel for those with physical limitations. Hotel Tyrol charges 17 euros per day for parking-so be sure to ask-much less than the city garage rates, I believe.

Das Tyrol is lightly staffed but adequate. The quaint 3 person elevator works well-as long as it is 2 normally sized people(with luggage) or 3 small folks without. I tried it with two fellow travelers, both over 6 feet-the lift would go up but wouldn't let us off. Worked fine with less load, so be careful. Our room was tiny but attractive. We had a great view of the building next door-no matter; we came to see Vienna, and we did.

The best part of this hotel is the breakfast room-fine, expansive selection of everything one would expect in a continential morning meal-including excellent omelets made to your specifications. This is a real plus in the city of Vienna-where even a modest street food meal will cost 20 euros if you aren't careful.

Das Tyrol has a ultra modern Spa, with striking decor and amazing bath fixtures.

On our departure, Das Tyrol provided a boxed meal of sandwiches and fruit-a very nice touch-since we left around 6am to turn the car in and catch an early morning flight to Frankfurt (another nightmare airport)- since the breakfast room didn't open until later.

This was by far one of the best displays of what customer service is all about. Catherine at the front desk was always attentive to the guests needs, always smiling and willing to offer up advice, tips, suggestions, etc. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious - especially by European standards. The beds are very comfortable and the room are very quiet - and the nightly sweet surprise (chocolate) on your pillow is a definite plus. Not to mention the great location - literally a short walk to various key locations e.g. opera, St Stephen Cathedral, etc. The breakfast buffet was always fresh and offered a wide array of breakfast items - from cold cuts to fresh omelets and warm pastries.
Would definitely recommend and we are looking forward to our next stay!

Good position just off the ring road around the old city and right next to museum quarter. Room small but well provsioned and perfectly adequate for two light travellers. Breakfasts good and desk staff helpful and friendly. Room quiet and beds good. View out the window not great, but plenty to see and love within walking distance. Stunning art work around the building, quirky and fun!

Couldn't ask for a better hotel in Vienna. It has a superb central location.

The best part was the staff warm and helpful attitude. Staff was incredibly helpful and was already with a smile and a "How can I help?"It was in stark contrast to the Teutonic stoicism tourists are treated with in the rest of the city.

The breakfast was a particular pleasure with the Lieberwurst sausages are a can't miss. The woman in charge of the breakfast area even made out halting attempts at speaking German a pleasure as she encouraged us with every miss spoken syllable.

If and when we return to Vienna we'd stay here without question.

It's well worth staying here. Subway is two blocks away. Opera House, about five and if you've been to the Opera House, you know the many great historical sites nearby. Staff was very helpful all of the time. That included provided us with lunch to go on the morning we departed (at 4:20 AM I might add). We had room 50, which sits on the corner with a small balcony. Lovely. Very well appointed. Although I wished for better weather, I can't blame the hotel for that. The breakfast was really great, and staffed by very friendly and efficient staff. One last comment. The original art in the hotel was surprisingly really lovely, from the lobby, to the breakfast room, hallways, the room we stayed in. And if you're a shopper, this is one great street for you.

Don't miss staying here if you can.

Room Tip: Ask for room 50. It's a corner which we suspect had a little more room, and charming small balc...

We only spent two nights here, but were very impressed with this unique luxury hotel. The décor is whimsical and facilities updated to modern standards. Beds were extra comfortable, plenty of space for the two of us, a lovely bathroom, and large windows to let in plenty of light. Location is perfect....just steps from museums and the Ring as well as two metro lines. We used the metro to get to and from the Westbahnhof station, and found it fast and convenient as there are escalators or lifts to help you get up or down to the trains which is a plus when you are carrying luggage.
The hotel has a lovely spa area in the lower level which you may book for exclusive use.
The reception was extra friendly and helpful during our stay, and made some excellent recommendations on nearby places to eat.
Breakfast was very good and included in the room rate. Internet had excellent reception in our room. You are allowed two devices per room to access the wireless internet, which meant for us to choose between the 4 devices we bring with us....for example I carry a smartphone as well as an ipad, so I could only use one of them during our short stay.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and have no hesitation staying here again.

We stayed here at the beginning of May for a week on our first visit to Vienna. We booked the hotel having seen the reviews of trip advisor. Have to say that from the moment we arrived until the moment we left we had a wonderful time. The hotel was just perfect - we could not find fault with anything. Warm and friendly welcome on arrival, spacious room with very comfortable bed overlooking Mariahilfilstrasse. Perfect working air con - beautiful bathroom. Peaceful hotel - modern artwork gives it a charming quirky feel. Breakfast was superb each day - staff even remembered our coffee preferences .

We cannot wait to return again. Haven't mentioned the city itself which again wowed us. A wonderful visit. Thank you Das Tyrol and Vienna.
