“Great stay at Das Tyrol...”
Reviewed 19 August 2008

I went to Vienna for a romantic getaway with my boyfriend and wanted a special place to stay...

First looked at some design hotel in the city but Das Tyrol offered some really nice rates (130 euros a night) so I decided to give it a try...

The location of the hotel is really a plus! its in the middle of everything... its right on Mariahilfer Strasse, a huge shopping street... the museum quartier is just a 5 minute walk... in the same area there are some really nice restaurants and bars (like ra'mien) and plenty of things to do...

The staff at the reception were really nice at all times... they give advice on things to do and places to eat... they even offer to make reservations for you...

The breakfast is really nice! with an amazing assortment of juices, breads, hams, cheeses, eggs, fruits, etc...

The room was smallish (normal by european standards) but very comfortable and quite accomodating... the beds were really nice and the pillows perfect...

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city location and quality wise...

We recently stayed for two nights at the Das Tyrol. It was wonderful! The location was right in the center of Vienna and you could walk to stores, restaurants, grocery store, etc. The room was nice. There was great artwork on the walls and in the hallways and the breakfast was fantastic. Omelettes, cheeses, hams, pastries, rolls, champagne, many different juices, fruit, yogurt, etc. I can't name everything ! The staff was very pleasant. I would highly recommend this hotel.

I just got back from three days in Vienna. This hotel is located on Mariahilferstrasse which is a main shopping street. The location was great and you can easily connect with public transit. Staff was very pleasant especially the woman that works at breakfast. She is so nice and greets everyone with such an outgoing attitude as has been mentioned in other reviews. The room was nice but small as are most European hotels. The whole hotel was spotless. My room was on the side street so I did not have any noise issues. I really can't think of anything negative about the whole experience.

The location is perfect. Potentially (and we expected to have) a brilliant experience here at this hotel... everything looked just lovely-- small but jewel-like. I have waited a year to write my review, trying to put my disappointment behind me, but here I am. It was all beautifully appointed, breakfast was the best I have had in any beautiful hotel EVER and is included in the room price, thank you very much. The front desk staff were actually pretty cool and not helpful the few times we asked, but this was not a major thing to us. We stayed five nights and, for some reason, perhaps just a substandard linen supplier, the bedsheets were very limp, not fresh and slightly starchy like good hotel sheets usually are-- we didn't really think much about it the first night, they were visually clean. We left the next day for sightseeing, came back late. Bed was made but linens not changed, just smoothed. Okay, no big deal. But the next night was the same only more so, decidedly unfresh, but it was very late and we were not of a mind to call housekeeping and have them changed (as if that would be an option). The next morning we pulled the sheets half off the bed, hinting maybe that a change was in order. Our mistake: we did not alert management to our dissatisfaction. We came back that night, bed had been made up with original linens and the housekeeper said there were no clean bedsheets. We spoke with front desk and they had words with the housekeeper who proceeded to grudgingly change the bedlinens with withering looks. In judging a hotel, my minimum requirements are a fresh bed, clean towels and hot water. It almost seemed as if this maid had not been briefed in the hotel's expectations about beds...for a supposedly 'small luxury hotel' they failed miserably in this very basic criteria.

Dear oohl,

Thank you very much for writing a review regarding you problems during your stay at our hotel.

We are very concerned about the described troubles with our housekeeping department and the linnen, that have not been changed.
Usually we have really excellent valuations for the categories "cleanliness" or "service" on tripadvisor and also other internet sales and marketing websites. As you already mentioned in your review, it would have helped telling the management (or the reception desk) about your dissatisfaction. We would have had a second opportunity to resolve this problem.
We definitely thank you for your open expression of opinion and apologize to you for this unsatisfactory service of our housekeeping department and that your holiday-feeling was affected in this way.
We trained our gils in the housekeeping department on this problem and hope that a mistake like this will not happen again.
We also hope that we get the opportunity to persuade you during a possible second stay at our hotel, that service is our success.

Thank you for your understanding!

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. Reception gave us a warm welcome and were very helpful in suggesting sights to see, giving us advice on booking tickets and giving us directions.

Location is wonderful, on one of the main shopping streets in Vienna, a five minute walk from the museums quartier and two underground stations and a short walk from lots of nice bars and restaurants and probably a 10-15 minute walk to the Hofburg, Albertina, Karlsplatz and the market, and Stephensdom. We had a gorgeous room on the 5th floor. It was a corner room and as a result we had a balcony and lots of windows which made the room really bright and airy. Throughout the hotel there are pieces of modern art including in all the rooms and corridors which gave the hotel a really cool feel to it.

The room was very big with high ceilings. Amazingly comfortable king size bed where I had probably the best night's sleep for a long time! Complimentary fruit and one of the most well stocked mini bars that I have seen. A small sofa and desk, free WiFi, air conditioning, great view of the street, TV with a huge amount of channels (mixture of English, French, Italian and German) including an English film channel and the usual news ones. Bathroom was lovely, fantastic, hot and powerful rainwater shower with hairdryer and lots of nice bathroom complimentaries. The room was spotlessly cleaned and each day we got a different little chocolate gift on our pillows. There was a big wardrobe with safe and plenty of hanfers which was useful - I find that many hotels only have 3-5 max. There is also a sauna and steamroom in the basement but we did not have time to use them unfortunately (I am also not sure if they are only open in the mornings or not). In the basement there are also lots of lockers that guests can use to leave their luggage in for example we used them when we checked out since our flight only left in the evening. The lockers are useful since you keep the key and you know that your bags are secure - much better than just leaving our luggage in a room that anyone could access which we have had to do in some hotels.

Breakfast was one of the best I have seen. Huge selection of cold meats and cheeses, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, freshly brewed tea or coffee and a hot breakfast menu made to order with the usual, eggs, bacon and omlettes. Breakfast staff were all friendly and the breakfast room was stylishly decorated with modern art scattered around the place and cool designer crockery. There was also music playing while we ate breakfast which I liked.

The hotel was expensive but cheaper than a lot of other 4 star hotels. We had a fantastic and faultless stay. Would definitely recommend.

The hotel was very clean and appeared to be only a few years old. While the rooms are small for US standards, they are pretty typical for europe. They had a very good breakfast available every morning which is included in the cost.

The hotel staff was always willing to make reservations for us at local restuarants and arrange transportation if needed. he location is only a short 10 minute walk to the center of the city, and only 5 minutes to the local metro.

We had 5 other couples meet us in Vienna, all of them booking at pretty much the same time but through different methods. Our friends from Europe that booked directly through the hotel ended up paying about 25% more than we did. I recommend shopping all the internet travel sites to find the best price.

We found this great boutique hotel after searching through Tripadvisor recommendations.
The hotel is very stylish and in a great location. We felt that it was very reasonably priced. Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive.
We booked directly with the hotel via the internet and our room was lovely, nicely furnished and very comfortable and quiet.
The buffet breakfast was excellent and more than we expected.
We would certainly stay here again.
