“Only the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2012

In April 2012 I have visited this unique hotel built on the highest place in Vienna, the hill called Kahlenberg. The hotel consists of spacious suites only, all of them have spectaculous view on Vienna city. From my suite I saw the city even from bed. The suites are fit out in high standart, all modern and design materials, such as wood, glass, marble and steel have been used. I msut say I would love to live at this place! Just the journey to the hotel is interesting, you drive through the historical part Grinzing, where are houses even from 11th century together with many stylish restaurants.

Room Tip: All the suites are super.

The Hotel Kahlenberg has the most magnificient view of Vienna. There is no better. Each room has a terasse that enjoys this view. The rooms are contemporary style and roomy. The biggest drawback is a completely ignorant staff who does the job but does not exhibit the usual Vienniese friendliness at all. If you don't care about that this is a great place to stay.

We attended a wedding at this hotel and decided to stay for the night, what a mistake.
The room is large but strangely appointed. The TV is on the same wall as the bed , so watching tv lying in bed is impossible.
The entire hotel trys hard to come across as hip and modern but only manages to display the strility of a youth hostel.
Finding the breakfast room proved to be a challenge as one has to use a door labeled "staff only" and cross a ballroom first. Unfortunately even the roommaids don't know where to find this mysterious breakfast room.
Breakfast itself is nothing to write home about, a few cold cuts, cornflakes, salmon and fruit. You have to get cutlery and plates yourself and if you ask very nicely (and quite a few times) you may get an egg (but only if you prepared to wait 20 minutes).
If you order drinks that have to be paid extra you have to pay cash as this "modern" hotel is not able to put anything onto your room account.
Service staff is unfriendly and lazy, so the only pro for this hotel is the excellent view. If you are willing to pay 229 Euro (we had a 60 Euro extra bed for our 7 year old) for a good view and bad treatment this is the riht hotel for you.
If you expect quality and service go somewhere else.

Great sightseeing. The room is enormous. You will love it. The only - is the distance from the city center.

I stayed 6 nights during the second week of January. Most days it snowed, sleeted, or there was freezing rain, and/or fog, so the conditions were probably difficult for the hotel. The suite featured separate toilet and bath rooms, but the toilet was not equipped with a soap dispenser. In addition, the exhaust fan would run for about ten minutes after leaving the toilet, making it hard to get back to sleep given jet lag. The cleaning staff did not fill the liquid soap dispenser in the shower which required that I get a replacement cartridge from the receptionist and install it myself. Internet service (ethernet) was free and excellent. Two of the days, the breakfast room was still being mopped and prepared 30 minutes after the scheduled opening time. On two nights the adjacent restaurant either had an unscheduled early closing (before 7 PM) or was not open at all. In order to get something to eat, I needed to take a bus toward's the city (about 18 minutes) and be highly aware of the schedule returning since they run every 30 minutes after 7 PM (and not after 10:30 PM). Schedules between 7 AM and 7 PM offer between 4 and 6 trips per hour, so while the location is remote, daytime travel is not difficult. The suite was starkly furnished, relatively comfortable, but the planning was not good. There was no way to watch TV in bed since the screen was on the same wall as the head of the beds. The view would have been excellent without the fog. I moved to another hotel for the last five days of my stay, paid about a 30% lower rate and had very good service and value.

My son and I found this modern hotel to be excellent value for money being both tastefully designed and furnished with superb views of the nearby Alps and in easy walking distance along the river to the nearby historic old town centre.

We were also very pleased to have eaten our evening meal in the hotel's restaurant and found the breakfast the next day to have an excellent selection to choose from.

well impresed, friendly staff, room's design very modern and very usefull.
very good price obtained on internet. we have an executive suite including breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child for 121 euro per night.
the purpose only to stay there was having a beautiful view of the city. disappointed: no panorama due to the unfriendly weather (fog).
