My wife and daughters made this our first stop in Vienna based on a recommendation from my daughter's friend who studied here. Her recommendation about the schnitzel was spot on. It was great, tender and delicious.
However, every thing else was spotty at best. The goulash was very salty and the dumpling very heavy. The biggest problem was the waiter. I know attitude is part of Vienna, but not bringing things we ordered, serving us the wrong dish and then denying it is not acceptable anywhere. One of my daughters is a vegetarian and there were a number of options on the menu. She ordered a sheep's cheese and zucchini dish. Instead she was served chicken strips. When we asked the waiter if this was sheep's cheese he insisted that it was. It was only at the end of the meal that he admitted it was the wrong dish.
There must be places where the schnitzel is good and you actually get what you order.
