Huge Mexican-style place next to Praterallee with most of the tables designed for big groups. Over the years we have learnt to order the Tabla de Fiesta every time and with three or four hungry people we have never managed to finish it – very meaty, crisp chicken wings, quesadillas with cheese and ham, pork skewers, Spanish omelette, two types of croqueta, hot fat chorizo, mini chorizos in red wine and fiery chilli poppers, before you even get to the huge basket of tortillas with guacamole and salsa and multitude of ham, salami, sundried tomatoes and olives. At EUR 25, you would be hard pushed to find a better or more filling platter to soak up the cocktails and beer.
There have been a few changes at Santa Cruz which include introducing a charge for tap water (EUR 1.20 for a glass or EUR 2.90 for a pitcher) and bumping up all of the prices, especially on drinks (EUR 8.50 for most cocktails). The service can be patchy, depending on how busy they are, but many of the waiters have been here for over a decade and cope quite well with a busy service, although the embarrassment of the new management policies such as charging for tap water and not allowing any variations are plain to see.
All in all, this is a good place to come if you want to sit and nibble for a few hours and can afford the drinks. I wouldn't recommend it to individuals or couples looking for a quick snack.
