“Stay away if you have allergies”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2012

I booked this hotel for a nice weekend away in Lillehammer with my partner. The town and country side were lovely, but the hotel was disappointing.

Let's start with the positive. The hotel has a fantastic breakfast. It is one of the most varied I have seen in Norway, and the waiters were on top of overything to ensure that all food items were promptly refilled, dirty plates taken away, and all tables were clean and ready to go. The hotel is very centrally located, close to the main shopping street, several restaurants, and bars. It also offers free wifi.

However, the hotel is clearly showing its age. The room smelled like old, moldy carpet. In addition, it is also poorly kept. There were thick layers of dust on the dresser and the bathroom counter. Despite having taken all my allergy medicines, I woke up with a runny nose from all the dust in the room. In fact, I grabbed a napkin from the glassware by the minibar to blow my nose and even the napkin was covered in dust. No help there! The bathroom tile was covered in red rust from the heavy minerals in the water, and also some black spots which I could not guess what they are from. It seemed that this room had not been properly cleaned in several months, if not longer.

It also didn't help that we had a view of a back alley and a garbage container - especially with all the beautiful scenery in Lillehammer.

The staff were all "standard", not rude, but also not friendly. Just sort of there to do their jobs.

If I were to return to Lillehammer, I would not once consider staying at this hotel again. But perhaps I would buy a breakfast voucher.

This hotel has nicer rooms, friendlier staff and a better location than the Radisson, where we'd stayed the night before. The Rica is also a big hotel, so a bit anonymous, but the staff were nice, the location is slap bang in the centre of town, and the breakfast was good too. Our room had a nice bath, was nicely decorated with a beautiful photo of the lake Mjøsa, and was absolutely fine.

Rica Hotel is located on Storgata veien. Everywhere from hotel is close, Lillehammer is not a very big city. I was there only 3 days during my holiday in Norway in June 2012.

Double room ~ 1000 NOK is acceptable as on norwegian prices.
Staff are typical norwegian :) - smiling and helpful.
Room was simple but clean and nice.
Beds was comfortable but should be connected in double room.
Bathroom was also more than ok. Towels was changed every day.
It was possible to catch WiFi in our room.

Generally - good sleeping place for Lillehammer visitors.

The Rica Hotel in Lillehammer is situated 5 minutes away from the station, an easy walk, albeit slightly uphill.

The reception area is a little dark, but the staff were friendly and efficient in checking me in with no fuss. The room, up on the fourth floor was fine, but as with the rest of the hotel it felt a little tired and in need of a little TLC. However, saying that, the rooms are fine in essence and were of a good size with a perfectly good bathroom.

Being in Lillehammer's centre gives you access to the lovely local bars and restaurants in this pretty town which means you don't have to eat in the property unless you really want to.

Eating in the hotel is no hardship, the evening meal was hearty and very nicely cooked, it wont qualify as nouvelle cuisine but you will walk away well fed and without a massive bill. Breakfast was also really wholesome with a big selection and lots of recognisable choices.

It is no palace, but it is very good value for money delivering a brilliant location in this former Olympic town. The place is dated, but it works very well indeed and I would choose it again as the prices matched the offer very well.

A solid, dependable choice.

Room Tip: Being on the fourth floor worked well for me, if you have a disability it is very important to be ne...

We found the room tired, but clean and quiet. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Each one went out of their way to assist us in our issues. For example, we had parked near the hotel. The desk clerk drew on the map exactly how to get around the numerous pedestrian streets and one way streets to get to their adjoining parking lot. Later, another used the internet to print up the required boarding passes for our flight out.
The breakfast was varied and deletable and their was plenty available in spite of a large tour group which charged through at opening.
The location in the center of town where the pedestrian streets are adjoining was satisfying.

This is a nice hotel. We had an easy check-in and went to our room. The room was super hot, with the sun shining on that side of the building. We closed some of the curtains and opened the windows. That helped, but the room didn't cool down until around 3 a.m. It was a nice hotel room. Nothing fancy. The beds were average. We slept, but none of us slept well. The best part about this hotel is the location and the breakfast. They had a nice selection of foods at the buffet. A typical Norwegian buffet, with hard or soft boiled eggs, plus some hot selections, smoked fish, thinly sliced meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, wonderful jams and jellies, cereals, croissants, coffee, tea, juices and milk. We walked all over the downtown area of Lillehammer, which is very nice. On our next trip to Lillehammer, we would stay here again. It was not a 5 star hotel, but it was nice. I should also mention, that we met family at this hotel and they didn't seem as happy with their room. It didn't cool down for them and they didn't sleep well, but they enjoyed the breakfast and the coffee, tea and water that was offered in the lobby.

Room Tip: If you travel during the summer months, open your windows as soon as you get to your room. Then go o...

Lillehammer was great. However, this review is not about Lillehammer but about the Rica Victoria. OVERPRICED. We paid 1350 NOK for one night. That is almost $250,00 USD. What did we get. A outdated room that didn't look like it was cleaned very well. Check-in was fast but when the receptionist told me how much the room was, she looked like she was ashamed. She should be. This has happened to me more than once in Norway. Nothing really special about the "free" breakfast. Never go there again.

Room Tip: We had to stay at this hotel at the last minute. Go onto a website like Hotels.com to book a room...
