“GOOD COMFORTABLE HOTEL”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Stayed just the one night.Staff were friendly Rooms in the new extensions go for. Free WiFi. Breakfast good. Close to Gagata Shopping Centre Seems this hotel does not cater for tour buses. Great Tried other hotel but all seem to be catering for bus tours On to Trondheim.

Went there in 1962 when I was 22, my first day in Norway, a summer student going to work at Rana Gruber which was an iron ore mine that was being developed then. The hotel was an old, quaint wooden building, the dining room was quite sophisticated but the menu was only in Norwegian. After some time with a dictionary I discovered that "kjorteretter" meant "meat dishes" and "med sennep" meant "with mustard" In the morning I had my first experience being served sour cream. Never mind I met a redhaired girl and it was good.

Room Tip: Go there in summer. I put a false date in the review box.

we only stayed for one night half of May. after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor we did not expect too much. But it was a pleasant surprise. We had a room at the newer building and it looked renovated. Modern room with purple and black. Good beds
Too bad they did not renovate the bathroom so it was a bit out of style but good. Good shower, plenty of space.

Down side of the room was that is was near the entrance and it can be quite noisy with people staying outside late at night.

Breakfast was ok. Very busy as guests from another hotel could also have breakfast there. They could not really keep up filling the buffet but overall it was ok.

Parking is paid, next to the hotel.

Room Tip: on the waterfront side of the hotel the bar is located. they have a speakersystem outside so you mig...

The hotel is really old and the ventilation needs to be upgraded. It was steaming hot in the hotelroom and the diningroom (wedding). The breakfast was good, but they did not serve egg and bacon :( it was a little sad to see the inside of the hotel, it looks like the interiors from the 80`s and some of the carpets haven`t been cleaned since the 80`s. The hotel looks magnificent from the outside with a great garden. The staff was polite and helpful, no worries! Overall it was a nice experience and I would come back.

First of all, the hotel is very dark and depressing from the outside. Then our reservation for a double room was changed to a superior room costing 2000 nok without telling us. Not even on checkin. Then the room was large and modern decorated, but sadly in very bad taste, with lilac walls, pink frilly pillows on the couch and a dark leather bed. The food in the restaurant did not have a lot of taste either. The service in the restaurant was very bored and took quite some time to even ask us if they could help us. Clearly they were more focused on bus loads of tourists, than individual guests. This was definitely the low point of our vacation and we will not come here again.

The new part of the hotel looks kind of funny, but inside is nice, maybe in general it needs to be renovated but everything works, this is an area of Norway where tourism as most people mean it isn't there. Food was ok, and service not impeccable, but I am sure they will improve this aspect. Would go again.

The hotel exudes class as you enter the reception area. Its public areas are well appointed and have character furniture. Most rooms are in the new wing, which from the outside looks like a rather soulless piece of architecture probably from the 80’s. But that doesn’t matter when you’re inside. Our room was functional as well as comfortable. Best feature: the heated floor in the bathroom! The view outside is pretty poor in most rooms.
Good size room, good décor, excellent bed, good curtains for blacking out the light in summer. The TV (flat screen) is on the small side for the room (they probably acquired it in the early days when flat screen TVs were still expensive). Not a real problem since we didn’t visit Norway in order to watch TV.
The restaurant has character with a few paintings and large windows, some with views over the town. Breakfast there was very good in terms of choice of food and ambience. It is a shame we missed on having a dinner experience there.
Parking was free with a voucher that the hotel gave us on arrival.
