Fascinating museum to visit! Excellent Viking history as well as history of the area and Greenland. Museum is well laid out for visiting---everything "flows". The medieval Trondenes Church is next door, so you could easily spend a couple hours here. There is also a very nice café and gift book/shop. Try to avoid getting here before 945am as the Hurtigruten ship has an excursion to the museum early morning and the museum can be very crowded before that time.

This is maybe the best historical museum in North Norway, no less! Great focus on Viking age with lots of artifacts, (an old sacrificial cauldron!), reconstitutions, paintings, photos, film...As said, I enjoyed the viking part the most but there are also nice parts on the colonization of Greenland (as a local priest participated), the building of the town in the XIXth century and a great part about the War!

The souvenir shop is very very good too, the settings are stunning, and the Trondenes Church, the old Graveyard, the old German bunker and the Adolf Canon aren't too far. There is also a path that leads you to the remains of an old Viking camp (with signs) and all in all the Nature is amazingly beautiful there.

From town it takes about 30 Minutes for someone in good shape to make it, so please, don't hesitate!

P.s: Some modern, temporary exhibitions are also available on the second floor.
