“Great location, tight spaces”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

If you're looking for a central place to stay, with cooking facilities, then this is the place. Friendly and helpful front desk staff.
However, space was really tight for the three of us in the apartment. There was hardly any room to put our large bags. The bed in the bedroom took up the entire space. And more hangers please. But value for money, esp. since you can use the washer/dryer in the basement.
My advice: If you're planning to book a room here, try to ask for a higher floor. We were on the 2nd floor and our room faced the traffic junction. Anyone on the street looking up could see straight into our room -- no privacy.

Dear guest from Singapore. Thank you for your kind and informative feedback! We are sorry that you were given one of our smallest apartments. We do our best to give the largest apartments to guests travelling three or more people together, in this case we were fully booked. We are grateful for your opinion and hope you will return to us, if concidering Tromsø worth a second visit ;-) Best regards, City Living Tromsø

Lovely big apartment with cooking facilities and fridge in the town centre. Nice to have a proper chair to sit in. Good views of the town and surrounding mountains and the higher floors minimise any street noise. Friendly and helpful receptionist. By Norweigan standards, good value for money. Recommended

I don't think this hotel is up to its Tripadvisor rating. We were on the fifth floor and the lift was broken. According to earlier reviews it had been that way for some time though management had said it would be repaired in a few days. Well, it wasn't. Thank goodness hotel staff carried our larger bags because these two over-60's might not have made it alive.
There was also an earlier comment about water running all over the floor from the shower, "which was attended to immediately". I sincerely doubt that because the shower enclosure is very poorly designed with insufficient run off to the drain, poor door closure and no hob. It's a design issue.
The rooms themselves are actually very small for an "apartment" and we struggled to have access to our bags as there wasn't enough space to unpack. All in all, pretty uncomfortable.
So why have I rated it 3 stars?
It's well located and relatively cheap (for Norway).
We had a pretty good time in Tromso so are spreading the love.
I would research pretty hard to try to find somewhere better next time.

Dear guest from Sydney. Thank you for your informative feedback, it is very important to us to have our guests opinions so we know what to improve. In may this year we have got a brand new elevator and it took two weeks to install the new motor. We are sorry if this made your stay difficult, and we wish we could avoid this issue to all guests. The elevator is now working as normal. About the shower drains we are doing our best in improving the doors of the shower so the water will not run outside. We hope you will return to Tromsø someday so we can make a better impression and give you a great stay, which is our goal at City Living. Best regards, City Living Hotel Tromsø

Well located to all sights. Very convenient if going off on a Hurtigruten cruise - 3 blocks from the terminal. Hotel is one block walk from the airport bus stop. Staff was helpful & friendly. English spoken by all. Room was clean and well appointed with full mini kitchen.

For our first (and surely not last) visit to Tromsø we were looking for a decently priced and presented hotel were to rest for the first night after travelling.

City Living gave us much more: an unexpectedly large and functional apartment at the 6th floor, overlooking the city centre and bay at a time light is never in shortage; lots of big windows to watch evening revellers from (and sills where to stretch onto); comfortable bedroom, spacious shower, all needed kitchen appliances. If it hadn't been the national celebration day on the subsequent day (I assume that's why room prices went so up so quickly closing up on our outbounds flight) we'd have very gladly prolonged our stay.

Last but not the least: the very friendly and smiley receptionist Frida was so keen on making up for the lift being out of order that I had to insist to carry my own trolley. Good luck on your law finals, Frida, and thank you again for your kindness.

This was a great reasonably priced placed to say. As it was an apartment, you could cook basic food in there rather than have to spend loads of money eating out - don't underestimate how expensive Norway is! The heating worked a treat and the bed was possibly the most comfortable I've ever slept in! The only down side was that the shower door didn't really close am because it was powerful it flooded the bathroom. Other than that, a great stay! Also, good wifi for tracking the northern lights!

We stayed here for 4 nights in March 2014. There are many positives about this place including it's location, reasonably priced for Tromso, the wonderful friendly staff and our spacious room which included a kitchenette. A supermarket is conveniently located about 100 metres up the road, which sells pretty much everything you need. Robert on the front desk was also very helpful and assisted us with booking an afternoon of dog sledding. If we ever visited beautiful Tromso again, we would not hesitate to stay at City Living.

Room Tip: We had a room upstairs which was quiet with views onto the street.
