Radisson Blu Hotel, Tromso
Ranked #8 of 18 Hotels in Tromso
Reviewed 16 August 2010

I have been using this Radisson for almost ten years and in the last few years it has benefited from an extension and renovation program.

The rooms are large and neatly furnished in a typical Scandinavian design, the hotel is clean, well maintained and has excellent staff who really know their stuff.

The Hotels central harbour side location makes it ideal for longer stays in Tromso or as an overnight before or after a Hurtigruten cruise, the restaurant serves excellent food at a reasonable price throughout the day, the breakfast has just about everything you could want on offer and although the spread is the same each day you could happily go a whole week without having the same thing twice.

Parking is a bit pricey but on a par with other hotels in the area, if you don’t have a car there is effective public transport and the Hotel staff can organise day trips and other excursions for you.

If you are travelling as a family and want a cheaper alternative for food there are several local restaurants including a very good Peppe’s Pizzeria just around the corner who will also deliver to your Hotel room.

I stayed at the Radisson for several nights on a business trip and had a wonderful superior room with Nespresso machine and a great view of the harbour and the Cathedral. Pleasant, quiet, good breakfast and perfect location.

I visited this hotel with a group of friends, we wanted to see the Northern Lights and stayed there for four nights, well, we were a bit unlucky, we did see them, but, unfortunately it wasn't very impressive, which I can hardly blame the hotel for! The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was comfortable, if anyone is thinking of visiting the area I must say I think that you would find it tricky to get anywhere any better for your stay, although we did upgrade to better rooms than the standard ones. In general, Norway is extremely expensive, so, having a good breakfast was essential, it meant that for the rest of the day you didn't need to have very large meals. Having said that, if you have the chance to eat at Emms's don't turn it down, it was super, just try not to think about how much it is costing!

The hotel is very close to the harbour and a short 5 minute walk from the Hurtigruten Ferry terminal. We took two rooms for one night. The rooms were modern but on the small side but ok for just an overnight stay. A few rooms have views over the harbour but most do not. The hotel is more geared to the business than to the leisure traveller and the standards and clientelle reflect that. Staff were friendly. We had to leave very early, and the hotel provided a great Norwegian grab and go breakfast.

I had a nice view from the 6th flour towards the Artic Cathedral. The helpdesk was very helpful with info and they even provided me with a charge when my phone died. The breakfast restaurant is a little complicated to reach. The hotel wall are not very thick and you could hear some things from your neighborhood. The room is quite small and the TV was strangely on the right side instead of the front but was very well equipped including an ironing board. Internet was free and I had a good speed.
