“Great stay”
Reviewed 11 July 2012

Cute, cleverly planned room. Wonderful, helpful, knowledgable staff. Great location (central + near airport bus + Hurtigruten). Quiet hotel, comfortable beds, very clean. Complimentary coffee, tea and cookies. Good breakfast. Would definitely return.

We stated in the Hotel Amelie for our last night in Norway. After ten days of pushing single beds together we were delighted to be offered a room with a proper double bed. The receptionist suggested we switch from the booked twin room (one negative here: the booking process said twin/double room so you may get the other). She was so helpful about places to eat, local buses, transport to the airport, wifi, and all with a smile. A real show of how a hotel should welcome and treat their guests.

The room itself was compact but nevertheless they had fitted in a double bed with wonderfully comfortable duvet, sheets and pillows, two chairs, a table, two bedside tables, an ironing board and trouser press, a TV, a cupboard, a chest of drawers and a bathroom with a good sized shower.

The location is amongst the heart of Tromso's hotel area and was very convenient for the Hurtigruten and getting to restaurants. (On the note of restaurants, if you like sushi then Ra is superb).

I would definitely stay here again and definitely recommend others to do so too.

We had a great time in Tromso and were so glad to be staying at Amalie.

It was less expensive than many of the other hotels we looked at, but the best thing about it was how friendly and helpful the staff were and the great breakfast.

We spent two nights here in June. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They were also helpful with information about local sights etc. There was free wifi and a computer with a printer in reception which was very useful. The hotel is centrally located and its a short walk to get to the bus stop for the airport bus.

We stayed for one night after touring Sweden and north Norway, arrived on the Hurtigruten boat and left from Tromsø by air for home next day. Hotel is very close (50m ?) to the Hurtigruten quay which is itself almost in the centre of the town.

Room was very compact but very well appointed with everything we needed. Bathroom excellent. Free wi-fi.

Breakfast was quite comprehensive and well presented (an evening buffet is also available to guests at 75 NOKs which is very cheap by Norwegian standards but we didn't sample it).

I needed to print off airline boarding passes. A free laptop and printer are available in reception. Very useful indeed.

Whilst we slept well (no cabin on Hurtigruten previous night !), the bed mattress was very very soft indeed and not really to our liking.

Reception staff spoke perfect English but unusually for Scandinavia, the room information was only in Norwegian. No mention of the free wi-fi, not even in Norwegian.

The hotel was very expensive by our standards but the cost of living in Norway is now diabolically high so it compared very well with other hotels in Tromsø.

Ideal location in Tromso, next to Hurtigruten harbour and airport bus stop.
Clean & comfortable rooms, those on the top floor have views - we asked for 5th floor when booking. The staff could not have been more helpful; we only stayed the one night but were made welcome to use the facilities (sitting room, hot drinks, luggage storage) until the ship sailed at midnight. Given the cold weather (March) that was a big bonus.
Beds large and very comfortable, tea/coffee in room. Buffet breakfast with good choice. We both felt this was excellent value and would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for 5th floor for harbour view

stayed March end at this Hotel. next door to radisson Blu . Considering how expensive Tromso (and norway is), found this reasonable. at NOK 3300 for 2 for 3 nights.
close to almost everything. Airport bus terminates at Rica which is less than 5 min walk.
Helpful staff, front desk was always manned, even late in the night. Rooms are really small. stayed on 5th floor, hence had good view overlooking hills and fjord. Tea/coffee making machine was very handy and helpful. and you could go down to reception area to get refils of tea bags/sugar/milk etc. well laid out furniture giving reasonable storage space considering how small the room is. large LCD TV with couple of english channels. small bathroom, but sufficient for the requirement. Well heated, rather a but too well, we had keep the window slightly open at nights despite it snowing outside. Only drawback i find was that beds were really small, cant call it double, rather one and a half would be more appropriate. Otherwise comfortable. Rooms cleaned everyday.

breakfast okay. what you need to get started for the day. Good thing was that server till 11:00, so if come late in the night after partying or chasing Northern light, you dont have to stretch yourself to get up early just for the breakfast.

i would recommend the hotel if you are not looking for luxury, which i suggest not to at 70 degrees latitude!

Room Tip: for rooms with a view, though restricted, request for top floor.
