It was our 3rd night in Tromso and we joined another tour who went to a base camp and left at 10pm and we didnt see the northern light. We also had no luck when taking the cruise from Skjervoy as the sky is really cloudy.
On our last night, we were with Scan Adventure and it was snowing in Tromso. The guide was not optimistic but we went to somewhere near the Finland border and the sky was quite clear (we saw many stars!) however, we still couldn't see any northern light (the index was 2 that night). We stayed there from 9 to 11 and on our way back, one of us found the light and Tommy, the driver+guide stopped the van and we managed to see the northern light there for around 45min. We were sent back to our hotel at around 2am.
I would like to thank Tommy as he told us much about the northern light and the living in Norway; and he was willing to stop the van and extend his working hours to let us see the northern light.
Scan Adventure is a very good company
- small group
- reasonable price
- provides tripod and warm suit with no extra charge
- tasty snacks and drinks
- good driver and guide who are really helpful and have genuine hope that we all can see the northern light
- longer hours (seems 12-2 is a good timing to see light)
