“Northern lights film is played in fast forward, unsharp, poor loudspeakers, disappointing!”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

A good idea to promote interest in science for kids and grownups alike, but a lot of the stations need repair. The same can be said for the geological and botanical path outside: owergrown and unmaintained:(

“Excellent place”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

We went for their planetarium show on Northern light as we get no chance to see during summer. But the entire science museum with their novel displays and interactive experience are worth spending time. In Tromso you get good buses to take you around, hence reaching here was not difficult.

“Re-live your childhood here”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

Good to spend 3-4 hours here, and play some of the games they have. Kids will definitely like this place, while adults can feel young again being here.

They have an omni theater and have shows scheduled all day. We watched the documentary about Aurora Borealis here and it felt like we saw it there ourselves.

Note that Nordnorsk Vitensenter is in Tromso University school grounds, and parking here may not be as straight-forward unless you have been here or you are local. Even asking the local students and lecturers at the university, we could not get straight answers.

With much effort we found it, and hope this helps: you need to get a parking permission letter (for free, no advance write-in required) at the administrative office, just beside the Nordnorsk Vitensenter. You can then park at the parking lot opposite the administrative office, which should be the very first parking lot you notice (on your left) upon entering the school ground.

“100% chance to experience the Aurora”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

Most of the people visiting Tromso in the winter come to see the Aurora Borealis. You need to have a lot of luck though (weather, solar activity etc.).
Well, in any case, by visiting Vitenssenteret (Science museum), you are guaranteed to experience the Northern Lights, albeit only as a movie in the planetarium of this museum.
This museum is a lot of fun, especially when visiting with children. There is a lot of interactive experiments to be tried, giving a good explanation of a lot phenomena (climate, nature etc.).
The movie in the planetarium (360 degree screen) about the Aurora and the cosmos (2 programs totaling almost 1 hour) is shown only a few times daily (a.o. at 15:15, on saturdays more shows).
If you come by car, there is a car park near the museum. This car park belongs to the university and you need to apply a park permit (free of charge) at the nearby building .The friendly lady at the museum can explain this further if necessary.
If you park without a permit, you risk a fine of up to NOK 800,-- (!).

“great fun”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

Plenty to do and well worth the entrance fee. It is geared towards children but my husband and I had great fun trying out all of the exhibits, topped off with a stunning film about the northern lights in the planetarium.
