“Cool and great value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

We booked Comfort Xpress hotel for a sightseeing of Oslo. First of all the hotel is really cheap for Oslo, and if your planning a trip in advance and you haven't got strict dates you can profit from some great discounts on their web-site. We loved the location! It's close enough to the strict center so you can walk there but far enough from it so you can profit from many laid back bars and restaurants. The building is not very encouraging - looks like a block of flats. But already the lobby is nice - it's modern and has something of the Norwegian design. It also has free coffee and tea 24h a day and cool pinball machines. The rooms are small but cozy. Good beds but tall people should beware. We even got a fridge in our room which I heard is not a standard there. Wi-fi is fast and the signal is strong. Bathroom with hairdryer is worth 3star hotel. But the best impression I had is the overall idea of a hotel that has only what is necessary. Please remark it's not a bit fancy (maybe a bit hipster ;) and I recommend it to people who travel on low budget but like a clean and modern place to stay.

First of all the hotel is nightmare to find, not very well advertised at all and you don't know you have found it until you stumble upon the entrance.

The hotel has created a very cool lobby area. You can check in using the self service machines if you want but we opted to use the member of staff on duty and they were very helpful and efficient, we were in our room within minutes.

The standard rooms are tiny with no room to unpack, but for a few items. The double beds come with two single duvets which is quite annoying when there are two people in the bed. You only get one pillow each. The bathroom is quite annoying as after you shower everything inside the bathroom is soaked as the shower has no screen. I'm just stating facts here I totally appreciate that you get what you pay for.

The free coffee machine in the lobby area is a nice touch and the kitchen area downstairs is a godsend in such an expensive city.

The hotel is in a great location for access to the centre and local transport networks.

Loved Oslo but the hotel was nothing to write home about.

A good bed, a bathroom and a few hundred yards/metres' walk to the main street of Karl Johan and the airport express train station, that's all you need. It's also clean, very stylish, young and friendly. Breakfast, a bag with a sandwich etc, is extra, and a good idea on Sunday morning when Oslo sleeps in, otherwise find yourself a cafe.

This place is perfect for a budget hotel. We stayed here for one night only, the rooms are clean and comfortable, good sized bathroom. Free WiFi and free tea and coffee to! Staff are really helpful and friendly, it's a good location and not far from the city centre. We will definitely be back!

The most affordable for us in expensive Oslo. It is very self service. You self check-in (staff at hand if you cant do it urself). They dont clean ur rooms, change ur towels n u have to remove ur rubbish daily n its Ok with us. Pay 30kr for new towels n 100kr if u want the rooms cleaned.
Rooms are small n modern n bed is comfortable. We were out most of d time and glad we have a nice bed to sleep in.
Location is perfect for all attractions.
Many Halal food joints nearby even a Halal cake shop.
There are Asian supermarket nearby too.
Free variety of tea n coffee available at the lobby. Pin ball machine. Large eating area in d basement. Good for school trippers.

My friend and I stayed last week there for two nights and for one night again. First the plus side
- The walk from the train station is roughly 15min and to the city centre maybe 10min so perfect for sight seeing
- Also I compared it to the Hostels and I payed approx 7€ more for a nice, warm, comfy, two bed room with an excellent shower than a 8 person bed room - so great value! (TV, WiFi & towels for free)

Some things some people would not like but don't bother me
- The is no real reception when we left we checked ourselves out at a computer, but no problem
- Room ist not cleaned while you stay (I think just every 4 nights or of course after you leave)
- You have to lock the room when you leave, remember that!! (staff did not tell us)

Luckily I read the locking thing online but also that they tend to have accidentally fire alarms. Sadly we had to experience one, just after we put our clothes on (4am!) it stopped and we went back to bed
All in all it is the best stay for students and young (feeling) people because of its great value especially if you book online on their own website!

Dear guest,

Thank you so much for your great review – we’re so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay!
The safe return mechanism on our lock is standard on new hotels in Norway – we’re really sorry we didn’t tell you when checking in. The door stays open for 60 sec, to enable you to quickly return to your room in case of an evacuation without using your keycard. You can of course lock the door with your key card when leaving as you say (it will automatically lock after 60 seconds).
As we are a 100% smoke-free hotel, guests smoking in their room will set the alarm off – I’m very sorry to hear this happened during your stay. It’s a very rude awakening we know and guests responsible are always asked to leave the hotel after paying their fine.

Thanks for recommending your fellow travelers to book on our own website –you’ll always find our best rates there!

We hope to see you here again soon – have a great day!

When you pay a budget price for a hotel room, you expect to end up staying in a budget hotel. And this is what this is. Probably not somewhere I'll return on business, but I think it is a good concept for its target market which is surely cash-strapped young-professionals.

My room was "no-frills" and comfortable enough for a two-night stay, although there might have been space issues had I stayed longer, brought more luggage or come as a couple. The one man receptionist/bar-man function was well-drilled, showing extraordinary patience when I came to him for help after making a pigs ear of the self-service screen-based check-in process, and he was only let down by his inability to secure me a taxi at 8:45am on a rainy Wednesday morning, but to be fair I think that is a common problem in Oslo when it rains!

The pin-ball was a nice touch, the free coffee in reception a pleasant surprise, and there's plenty of space to set up your laptop in the reception area and hook up to free Wifi rather than trying to work at your room's little fold-down desk, should the need grab you.

On the downside, paying for clean towels/linen during a longer stay is not to all tastes (but then who has a clean towel every day when at home anyway) but I have to say, finding my breakfast hanging in a bag on the outside of my door in the morning was my only real disappointment with the place - combined with the fact that the main event was a stinking egg-roll. If you're going to give people no choice on the breakfast menu, at least steer clear of the smellier items!! Fruit, yoghurt and juice were fine though - I just would have felt more civilised collecting the food in the foyer rather than finding it outside my door and carrying it down there with me before consuming!

In conclusion, the hotel provides about the best value hotel rooms in central Oslo by keeping overheads low, and I think the key is to remember how much more you could be paying before getting upset about towels! Although I really hope they scrap the breakfast in a bag!!
