“A Delightful Experience In The Heart of Town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

This is, quite simply, a delightful hotel. It's tucked away on Folketeateret St., a short walk from Oslo's Central Station, and is very close to popular thoroughfare, Karl Johans Gate. You're also just several feet away from shopping along the pedestrian-only section of Torgata St. which offers a healthy variety of retail therapy.
This particular property is nestled within a complex housing several restaurants/cafés, a theatre, and various bars and clubs (the area simmers with nightlife).

I found check-in to be quite straightforward and the front desk attendant warm and informative. In general, that staff was very helpful. In the lobby, to your right, you'll find the restaurant where complimentary breakfast is served (a truly remarkable spread of all manner of Hot and Cold selections--you don't want to miss it; it's one of the better ones I've experienced in some time) while elevators to rooms are located to your left. Round the clock complimentary coffee/tea self-service is available in the lobby.

My room, a Standard, featuring a minimalist, modern design, I found to be a bit of a tight fit but rather functionally efficient--more than sufficient for one. Closet space is close to non-existent and your included bath product is a multi-use soap dispenser. You should pack addnl. shampoo and/or bath products as needed, if the aforementioned will not be sufficient. Additionally, I did not notice a Safe in the room (though I understand this is likely present in some others).

Other notables: the hotel offers guests complimentary wi-fi (which I found to be fairly reliable) and if you don't have your own device you can get online via the public MAC computer (which is rarely in use, so no wait times) in the lobby. Also, be sure to check out the lounge and adjoining rooftop terrace on the top floor.

*If you're arriving at Oslo's main airport (OSL), it is quite easy to hop on the Airport Express directly to Oslo Central Station. From there, it's a short walk to the Clarion.

Overall, a very enjoyable experience. The hotel offers excellent value for money and is a solid 4-star experience. I highly recommend it.

The best: Very nice deluxe-room with private balcony :D Good breakfast and a nice lounge with complementary light evening-meal.

Could be better: The lounge could have even better opening hours (from check-out and also a bit later in the evening), and prices for mineral-water/soft-drinks could be a bit lower.

Will book here again for sure!

I am travelling to Oslo every week. When I am staying in Oslo, living in Folketeateret feels like home. The lovely people at the front desk give support in every matter. The booking, the breakfast, the cleaning, the evening meal - excellent!

Perfectly located walking distance from Central Station in downtown Oslo, the Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeateret is a hip, modern and very comfortable hotel option that won't break the bank. The service is excellent, and my room (a double) was roomy quiet, with a mini bar, seating area, and mini desk. The bathroom amenities are a bit sparse. But no complaints here. There is a roof terrace, light evening snacks, and the breakfast provided at the adjoining restaurant each morning offered a huge, delicious spread, in an absolutely beautiful dining room. Plus there is always coffee of tea available in the lobby. Single rooms a a bit small, so if you want a bit more space upgrade to the double. There are great restaurants within the Folketeateret complex, as well.

I couldn't have been happier with our choice of hotel.

Room Tip: A double room offers a bit more space, a large bed, and plenty of places to store your belongings. B...

Friendly check in. Hotel and its facilities explained by the receptionist. The bedroom was very satisfactory. Bathroom with shower only had under floor heating which was great - even in July! The evening light buffet meal was of a good standard. A limited choice, but hey hoo the facility is not meant for fine dining. The buffet breakfast was well presented, plenty of choice. Hot items were however a bit cold. That was the only negative during our 2 night stay. Would use this hotel again.

With an excellent train connection from the airport to Oslo center, the hotel's location around the corner from central station (where one can find an excellent and reasonably priced wine shop) is perfect for travelers doing things on their own. The room was large and comfortable, but the bathroom was a little strange with no shelves and no shampoo or conditioner. However, the food made up for the bathroom deficiencies -- an outstanding breakfast, nice afternoon tea, and abundant, light evening meal all included.

The staff are excellent, food excellent, site great, really near town centre.
However the designer rooms fail miserably, first no place to do your make up ladies, nor to layout your bottles etc. Not enough space to hang your clothes. Lighting in the bathroom blinding if trying to make-up. Shower soaks the bathroom floor, the towel hangers just above the loo what a really stupid place. No where to hide cases. Clearly a designer's dream provided you do not have to use it! In our room the basin's drain was partially blocked and the lighting switcherie bizarre. Despite the room we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
