We took the ferry from the Oslo port over to the museum. It was a rainy day, I'm not sure of that contributed to the busy day or not, but this place was very busy. There were 3 Viking ships on display. Each was very different. It was interesting to see the items included in the burial of the people interred in the ships. The video is very well done, and just long enough to cover the pertinent information without being overly drawn out. The shop was very busy as it is tiny, but had the best selection of Viking themed books and goods we'd seen yet!

Small and very beautiful museum appr. 20 min with the bus outside Oslo (in Bygdøy). Audio-tour in several languages, bring head-phones.
Shows Vikings as craftsmen and shipbuilders. Best in combination with Folkemuseet, jest beside.

According to my preschooler, the thing he loved best was the Viking ships. Helpful, no??

In all honesty, the museum was small and quaint but very visual. Straight off you see an intact Viking ship with beautiful carvings. Kids were immediately excited. Even the baby flapped his arms and legs to see the ships and the movie (runs every 25 minutes and explains the Viking boats and funeral rites).

There are done artifacts that were found with the ships but that’s it. It’s really a museum for these specific three ships. It would benefit from expanding and including more about Viking history, Vikings in Norway, and misc Viking artifacts.

Our last day in Oslo was the day we did several museums and tried to see what we had not yet seen. The Viking Ship Museum was very cool!

Where else will you find three Viking ships together & so well displayed. Very busy but then that was to be expected. Brilliant.
