“Small and dark room”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

I stayed here for one night durig a business trip and was not impressed. The room was small and dark with only a small window in one corner. There was no mini bar or closet and the so called Queen size bed that I had ordered was just two single beds put together. The gym has a light that turns on automatically when you enter, but there must be something wrong With the sensors because after just a few minutes on the treadmill the lights went out and I was left running in complete darkness. Quite dangerous I would say.
I did not have any meals during my stay so I cannot comment on the Food.
Will not saty here again.

Good location, 15-20 min uphill walk from central station, busses available. Friendly and efficient service.
They've managed a trendy look with simple materials. Our floor was covered in dust bunnies but everywhere else was clean.

Plus:
- Great breakfast
- Wooden floors in room
- Clean
- Decent size bathroom

Negatives
- Very noisy in the middle of the night screaming drunks outside the hotel. Strange that the windows are not better sound proofed
- Small beds - beware!
- Friendly personell, but slow response rates

Thank you for your informative review after staying at Scandic Vulkan.

Its great to hear that you liked our breakfast buffet filled with several ecological items. We are also happy to hear that you found the hotel nice and clean.

I am sorry for the inconvenient noise at night from the passers, and that our 3 layer glasses did not isolate good enough.

Have a nice day, and we hope to see you again!

I have stayed at this hotel couple of times and every time it has been a very comfortable stay. the hotel is a 5 min taxi ride to the Oslo city centre and once could also take a 15-20 minute walk down to the oslo central area.

the rooms are comfortable and they have a good restaurant. There are also a couple of good restaurants at walking distance from this hotel.

Overall I highly recommend it for short stays in the city.

As a Businesstraveller living nearby Oslo I don't often stay the night out, but this hotel tempts me to do it more often. I will tell you why;
Fresh, Clean and Urban atmosphere.
Comfortable soft beds gave a very good sleep.
Good breakfast till 11 at Saturdays. Fresh baked warm bread was a big plus at our stay.
Location is perfect for Gourmet people with "Mathallen" next door. Pubs and culture just around the corner. Check out "Blå" for their cultural offers like markets, concerts or anyway the beautiful surrounding along the river "Akerselven" who ends up downtown. Only a short nice walk over the bridge and you will find the trendy area "Grünerløkka" with rewarded restaurants, fashionshops, parks, pubs and cosy cafes etc. And if you eager for the downtown sights, the bus will carry you easily and safe.
So my tip is; Stay in this hotel if you want the real atmosphere of Oslo. And if you have good feeds, take the walk along the river. Or a pub to pub at Grünerløkka with start at Nighthawk Diner that serves the best beer from Norway - Håndbryggeriet, on tap! :)
PS, You will not get lost!

Room Tip: Angle East and high up (Floor 7-9). Most quiet and the best view.

Spent a great weekend in Oslo's Scandic Vulkan. Chose that hotel at random and according to a good Norwegian friend's advice. The only unfortunate thing is that hotel is not really easy to find if you are coming by car and without good navigation system. But I found Norwegians great and helpful people who tried to give a hint which is the best direction to go into there. The location itself great, easy to reach the center, the shopping areas and the gorgeous Olso's opera House. Marthallen also near the hotel complex.
The reception Manager was really nice, she gave us an upgrade and we were more than happy. What a beautiful view on the city we had from the big window glasses. The room was big enough, to my taste very hygienic due to the wooden floor, very clean with tea -coffee facilities with a quick wireless internet access. Unfortunately there was no mini bar !The personal very very helpful and friendly. The only problem is that one has to wait bit longer to get any information because there is mostly one person at reception desk. If you are not in a hurry it doesnt matter but if you need an urgent information this can be a problem for waiting time is quite long when there is a queue waiting.Even when I called at hotel reception to find my way to the hotel , I had to wait quite long to get an answer. It was an expensive phonecall because was using my Swedish mobile to call. Another facit is that hotel doesnt have its own parking areas, One has to pay for around €25 for 24 hours parking. Pretty expensive if you plan to stay 2-3 days and get your car parked. Otherwise hotel stay was great, breakfast buffet really amazing , no complaint for there was everything for everybody and also big space too. Buffet personal very friendly and helpful. The bar cosy with reasonable prices and a nice , friendly personal there too. In all good stay which could have been perfect with a better custmers' -reception manager and a free parking area. Still, I would recommend that hotel !

Room Tip: Dont chose any room downstairs, better chose one

I had the corner room, and it felt like the cars were litterally driving through my bed. When I complained, I received at snotty answer.
3rd stay in the hotel, otherwise no complaints.
Menu in restaurant a bit limited for a shorter stay, but meal of the day helps

Room Tip: Not on ground floor, and facing the city, not the street
