“Good value”
Reviewed 17 October 2012

A well located hotel under reconstruction. Small but well planned rooms. Very good breakfast bufé. Is labeled budget by Thon and given that the price level does not change after the reconstruction it is a good joice. During the work there are some disturbance but it is well compensated for by the 4 minutes walk to Carl Johan

From the outside, it is obvious this hotel is still undergoing major renovation. Once inside your room, you can see the results of that renovation. Walking down the hallway (still under renovation), all you see are cold baren plain white walls with solid grey metal doors which can be very depressing and I was worried that this would be the condition of our room! Once inside the room, however, the atmostphere really warmed up quite a bit despite the sparse appointments.

The room was compact, but definitely not crowded. Two people can easily navigate in the room without bumping into each other. The biggest surprise was actually in the bathroom. We stayed in several hotels in Scandinavia including an upscale Crowne Plaza, but this is the only hotel we have ever stayed at where the floor of the bathroom was heated!

The only slightly negative feature of the room for some might be the bed. While the bed certainly was comfortable, it has a mattress that is more like a very thick blanket which is a lot thinner than what Americans are used to calling a mattress.

The other big surprise was the breakfast buffet. Even though this is a budget hotel, the breakfast buffet served hot foods (scrambled eggs and sausages) along with the typical fare of delicious breads, cheeses, cereals and fruit... including pineapple... in Norway! If you go away hungry, its your own fault!

Parking is just a few short blocks away in the Munchs Gate garage. Be sure to get your ticket validated at the front desk for a 25% discount. This is the same parking garage used by the more upscale Thon Hotel Stefan (which is literally around the corner) where the same type of room cost almost 500 NOK (Norwegian Krone or about $83 USD) more.

The location is also a positive since it is only a short walk to Karl Johans gate (the main street in central Oslo) and the harbor area.

This is one of Thon's budget properties, so keep that in mind. Overall, if you are looking for a clean comfortable place to sleep without paying for the upscale experience, this is definitely the place for you.

The location of the hotel was perfect! Short walk to King's palace and to the city center, but the hotel area was very peaceful.
One side of the hotel building was under renevation, but you didn't hear any disturbing noise from there. Rooms were tidy and nice.
Breakfast was good and similar to ones in Finland. The staff at the reception was very helpful and kind.

First of all it's a B&B not a hotel.
At the reception, staff is very nice and helpfull.
Single room is on the minimalist side but all the basic comfort. Same decoration type as Novotel, let's say : ugly.
The hotel is in total refurbishment, since difficult to have a real opinion outside the room.
It's said that there are several TV channels, yes indeed, but apart from BBC World all channels are in Norwegian!
Great location, nice neighbourhood.
For 1 night, I can definitely recommend it

Given the price of this Thon hotel - much lower than many of the others in the chain - I thought there must be something wrong with it but gambled anyway.

And I won. There's nothing wrong with this hotel at all. Location is fine, a little outside the centre but not dodgy in any way. Rooms were a decent size, comfortable, clean and quiet. The shower was more than adequate, and the breakfast was very good indeed, especially given it was included in the price - a good selection. Front desk service was friendly and helpful.

Would definitely stay again at a similar price.

I haven’t really checked the price on this one; it was picked out for me. But I really hope it is very, very cheap. Small rooms, small restaurant, small breakfast, no soundproofing (I listened to a party across the street until approximately 03:38) to speak of. Unusually soft beds, if you like that. The rooms are being renovated, so maybe the standard will go up a bit (I’m not sure if my room was newly renovated or still waiting its turn). If it is really cheap, and you just need a place to rest/sleep for a while, then sure, go for it. Otherwise, maybe you should look somewhere else.

You shouldn't expect much out of budget business hotels anywhere, but in a city like Oslo the least you would expect was hot water in the showers, and that the showers weren't hanging loose on the wall. My single room was small without a trace of personality or warmth, but the bed was good and warm. Breakfast just fine, but no other food services after 11 am. Hotel lies off the main shopping street in a dark and unfriendly part of town. This is my third stay here due to business obligations, but I would go for something else if I had the pick.
