“Good budget choice centrally located”
Reviewed 28 September 2009

Spent 1 night here for a sightseeing trip prior to a business meeting. I booked directly with the hotel chain on the web for 675KR including breakfast which was good value for Oslo hotels. I arrived just after 11 a.m. and the room was available which meant I could freshen up a little and leave my things before going to explore the city.
The room was relativey basic but fine. There was a trouser press but no iron. Breakfast was in a large bright room and there was a selection of hot and cold foods to suit all tastes.
There was a leaflet which said that internet access was available but I didn't explore this. In reception there is a coffee machine with free coffee and the check in and check out was a friendly and efficient experience.
The hotel was quiet but it's in a good location and about a 10 minute walk from the National Theatre train station if you're coming from the airport. All in all this was a good experience and I'd stay here again.

very good budget hotel i think. see that there is a bit of different oppinions
about this. Anyways, the rooms where big enough, clean and mostly up to date.
can't comment on the 65 NOK breakfast because i didn't try it.
comfertable bed, did not hear any outside noise.
there is a supermarked outside the hotel and a 7/11 if you
wake up in the night in need of anything just accross the street.
i would stay again.

A relatively cheap hotel in very expensive Oslo. The location is great - we walked to all of the major attractions from the hotel - however bikes and public transport are very close too. The room was basic but clean and fine for us since we were not spending much time in the room anyway.

The staff were very helpful, it was quiet at night and the bed was very comfortable. One negative - The room was rather warm with no A/C but a small desktop fan was provided. I would highly recommend this hotel for the budget site-see-er and would definately recommending getting the buffet-style breakfast - it is great food and very cheap compared to any other food you will get in Oslo.

Although quite central, the hotel has an old dirt-incrusted look. Even if it is a budget hotel, they could do better for the atmosphere. Maybe they just want to match the name and be as depressing as many of Edvard Munch's paintings. Or maybe eco-friendly (they do brag about being so) actually means they prefer dirt to water and soap. The correct answer probably is that they are cheap enough (in a very expensive city) to be fully booked most of the time. And they do not care about the rest. With one exception: the breakfast. That was good and varied. The only problem was that one morning I had to "enjoy" it in a room packed with noisy teenagers. But at least that was not the hotel's fault. They also take pride in offering free wireless Internet access. Don't count on it, it is barely functional, probably too busy. One tip: if you come to Oslo by plane, the airport bus leaves you (and picks you up) just around the corner.

I booked Thon Hotel Munch on their own website after comparing prices over and over. I decided to save a bit of money to go with budget, which i thought was a good idea after seeing menu prices at various restaurants. As long as you are prepared to accept what a budget hotel is actually like, I guess it is OK. We arrived late as it was a Ryanair flight into Torp (which is miles and miles away from Oslo) the man at the front desk was just a robot. Gave us a room key, took our crcard and that was it. No smile, no welcome. I had to ask him what time breakfast was, where it was and if I could have a map. The bedroom is definitely cell-like as described by a previous review. It would have been fine if it were CLEAN. There were sprinkles of some sort, looked like there was a party in the room by the previous guests and it was obvious the room was not vacumed. I expect this between guests, how awful is that with party glitter on your floor and some on the bed? The bedside table had hair on it, so it was obviously not wiped. These are basic expectations of any hotel room, whether its new or old. Not nice.
Bathrooms are small but usable, hot showers-good. No soaps or lotions, bring your own. I wish they told me that! I had to run to a shop to get some lotion the next morning.
Breakfast is good but on Sunday morning it was chaos. Tons of people hoarding the food, not pleasant. I just quickly got some toast and went back to my room to eat in peace. There wasn't any more seat available anyway.
Good location but watch out for pickpockets at night, they are sneaky and try to chat you up while you walk back to the hotel from city centre. Not far from sights tho so thats a positive point.
Just a heads up if you book budget, expect it.

This is a cheap (for Oslo), budget hotel in central Oslo.

The rooms are very small, in fact they are a bit cell like, however it had everything one would need. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and the shower worked well (the towel could have been bigger though).

Breakfast was quite good, in a main-land European sort of way, and better than I was expecting. There was lots of cold meats, fresh fruit, baked beans, scrambled and boiled eggs, cheeses, muesli, etc. and a nice selection of breads.

This hotel is basic but functional and the staff where pleasant enough. On the whole if you want a budget hotel in the middle of Oslo this one is worth considering.

This is a quite basic hotel, i had a small room and very basic equipment. However, it was very clean and close to the city center. The worst thing is that they are clearly understaff, for any reason (even to give back the room key while being outside) you need to queue for 15 minutes at least. On this respect and when asked suggestions or info the staff was really impolite
