“a gem in oslo”
Reviewed 29 June 2011

this is a small hotel that is both beautiful, well run and very good value. use of stone and wood throughout gives a cool, but natural feel to the interiors. four poster bed with muslin drapes was cool and luxurious; all products are organic and generous quantities provided. each room has a wall mounted MAC for wi fi, which is a great touch. georgeous breakfast and friendly staff. stayed in other more expensive places in oslo, but this is the one to return to. in a quiet area, but about 10 mins or so walking to the town hall, and the sea. additional treat is a turkish themed small spa, with a sauna, steam room, cold stone bath and recliners in a lovely atmosphere. beautiful spa products to use for free.

Carlton is in a great neighborhood close to restaurants, the harbor and Oslo center. The hotel looks very modern and welcoming. Great artwork on the walls everywhere, the room was really unique but cozy. Ok, the bathroom was tiny but I didn't care considering everything else looked great. Breakfast was wholesome in a nice space with beautiful dishes. Extra plus: a Turkish inspired relaxation area with sauna and steam bath. I highly recommend this hotel!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carlton Oslo Hotel Guldsmeden.
The staff were friendly, helpful and generous -- thanks especially to Eline for all of her help and consideration! The rooms are very clean, interestingly decorated and the beds comfortable. Our double room was lovely, if a bit small.
The breakfast buffet is delicious and includes many tasty options, all fresh and nicely prepared. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in the pleasant dining room each day.
Oslo is quite a walkable city and we found this hotel conveniently located both for exploring the city and getting to trains, etc.
Only thing we did not enjoy was the IMAC on the wall instead of a TV - we did not have much luck finding "free tv and movies" on-line, perhaps there is not as much available there? However, we didn't go to Oslo to watch TV or movies so this was a MINOR inconvenience.

An excellent choice for those seeking for special hotels to stay at, with atmosphere of their own. Fancy fusion of Balinese and Saami motives in design (curiously perceived as very natural), no hotel space unattended by designer. You feel having been carefully thought about by hotel management, everything from sleep quality to breakfast being organic and delicious to natural composition skin care products to anything your eye can catch - has been attended to. Standard rooms are a bit on the small side, but this is the price you pay for a very reasonable rate in an expensive city like Oslo. Location is just the way I like it - within easy reach of the centre, but out of the hustle and bustle of it. Many attractions like Aker Brygge, Royal Palace, major shopping street, Rathaus (from your room you can hear carillons playing) are indeed very close by. Easily accessed from the airport (National Theatre station). Extremely efficient service and pleasing attitude of hotel staff. We arrived in the evening and tea (there's a wide selection of them!) was served for us in the room on our request (and not charged for). I also enjoyed spa - in complete solitude ))) - and they are said to have a swimming pool in place by June, so everyone reading this review is in for a good chance to benefit from this too. Put in a nutshell - a real gem of a hotel. Will never even think of any other when in Oslo, though I prefer to stay in different hotels each time. Highly and heartily recommended.

The hotel is situated in a quite side street, but not far from the bus and tram stops, and also within walking distance to shops etc.
The room was quite small, but with a nice interior. The bathroom was fine, but after taking a shower there was water all over the floor due to no showerwalls or shower curtains.
Nice shampoo, conditioner etc, organic and the hotels own brand. There was an Imac in the room, no TV. I did't bother finding out how to use it, as I was not spending any time in the room other than sleeping. Breakfast was OK, not so much to choose from though. Very nice colorful mugs, plates and bowls in the breakfast room, which made the experience good! No minibar in the room, but there was a safe. Shouldn't be to far to go for 7-11 or something similar, though. The price I payed was not too bad for Oslo, NOK 975 for single room (however got a double bed, but room was a bit to small to be spending more time than nescassary in). The hotel is not staffed at nighttime, but there was an emergency number if needed.

I have stayede at the Guldsmeden hotels in Copenhagen several times and was delighted to find out that one had opened in Oslo. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to enjoy my stay so I didn't try the Hammam. But the room was as usual really nice, the staff helpfull and friendly and the breakfast delicious.
I can warmly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at the Carlton Hotel for only one night and I was delighted by this little hotel. In the past, I've stayed at different Thon hotels and the Radisson and I believe this hotel is better. Why? Because it has a very particular atmosphere: the rooms are wonderfully decorated, the staff is super friendly and overall you feel a very cozy vibe.

This is definitively where I'm going to stay the next time I'm in Oslo.
