The Carlton Guldsmeden is a great find in central Oslo. Spotless and modern, within 10 minutes walk of the downtown area, it was the friendly service that distinguished it for me. That, and the reasonable price in an incredibly expensive city.
It has a decent spa but I was disappointed to find out it was open only from 5 to 9 pm. No problem, said Johanna, "I will open it specially for you in the morning". I really appreciated that.
No TVs in the room but an IMAC. Nice if you can work them. "No problem", again from Johanna," I will come and explain".
The rooms are not large but they are modern and clean. The bathroom is Tokyo-size. Brushing your teeth is a bit like being in the restroom of the airplane; you have to be careful not to spit out the remainder of the toothpaste onto your shoes.
Breakfast is fine.
The hotel is 5 minutes walk from a selection of reasonably priced restaurants and the airport train express (180 NKR).
I wholeheartedly recommend the Carlton Guldsmeden. The service and price alone make it a great choice and I don't care about the toothpaste.
Thank you Johanna and Sanna.More
