“Very good location and well decorated hotel”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

We have stayed family of 5 for two nights in a family suite which was very economy. The room is not so big but very cosy and decorated nicely. The staf were very friendly and was happy to help.
The room had 2 imac`s which were the tv radio and internet. The motive of the hotel is green environment and the healthy and tasty breakfast was in that mood. The location of the hotel is just a few minutes walk from aker brygge.
To arrive to the hotel from the airport it is recommended with the train since the taxis are extremely expensive even for a very short drive and you cant trust the honesty of the drivers. If you are using a taxy there always ask for the price in advance.

Small and airless room, bathroom even smaller. The shower head bracket was loose and couldn't be tightened to hold it in position. Booked twin beds,we thought, but found out they don't have twins.
What's with the "Organic Towels"? They looked like - and had the absorbancy of old drapes that had been cut up. The animal hide on the end of the bed was an "interesting" -decorative(?) touch. We're out of here!

Dear Bob M, we are sorry to hear that you were not entirely happy with your stay at the Carlton Oslo Hotel Guldsmeden. Our rooms are generally on the small side, as is common for many inner-city hotels, especially of the boutique variety. However, we have done our utmost to make up for what is lacking in sheer square footage, by making the rooms the most comfortable, charming and well-equipped possible, and feel we have succeeded quite well, as most guests who stay with us agree with. We are a luttle curious as to what you mean when you say that you "booked twin beds", as that is -as you correctly state - not possible, we do not have twin beds in our hotels. Which site have you booked through? If you would let us know at oslo@hotelguldsmeden.com, we would be most grateful, as it is not in our interest to be featured on sites that do not accurately represent what the Guldsmeden hotels have to offer.
Finally, regarding your comments on our towels and hides: the towels are a source of pride to us, as they are 100% organic and fairtrade, made especially for the Guldsmeden hotels. The material makes it possible for us to wash them in-house, using only biodegredable detergents and drying them on clothes-lines in fresh air, weather allowing. This whole process cuts down on our CO2 emissions considerably. The deer hides are a nod to the people of Norway, in particular the northern parts of the country. These animals have been a source of food and clothing for people for a very long time, and we find the use of animal hides from animals that have actually served a purpose in all possible ways much less offensive than the fur of animals that have been reared in captivity for the sole use of their pelts. Of course, if you are a strict vegetarian, we understand that the use of animal products in any form is offensive - but then, that would include the eggs and hams on the breakfast buffet, for instance. We do not know if there are vegan hotels in Oslo, so cannot advise you on this - but wish you happy travelling in the future, and hope you managed to enjoy lovely Oslo :-). Best from all of us at Guldsmeden Hotels

I stayed here with my mum back in May for 7 nights. We both absolutely LOVED it!! I can't fault it at all. Breakfast was gorgeous. Attention to detail brilliant. Loved the ethnic feel to the place - as soon as you walk through the doors into reception the whole place has a lovely relaxed ambience about it. Our room was quite small but very cosy and extremely comfortable after a full day of sight seeing in the wonderful city of Oslo. Also impressed with the iMac on the wall!
My mum & I made use of the spa facilities one evening - we were the only people in there, which meant we had a steam room, 2 saunas and lots of pampering body creams/nibbles to ourselves.
Would stay here again in a heartbeat. :o)

I would recommend this hotel for both private and business visits; really nice and nice change from the usual business hotel. The hotel has personality, nice with the inclusive spa, friendly service and fantastic breakfast.
The elevator was working on/off, but the rest was great.

We had recently booked to stay four nights in the Guldsmeden after which we were going elswhere in Norway for a few days before our return to Oslo for two nights to a cheaper hotel before our departure home. We liked the Guldsmeden so much we cancelled the other hotel to spend our remaining two nights in Oslo in the hotel. The location of the hotel is great, it's situated on a quiet street only 5 minutes walk from the lovely Aker Brygge area and also only 5 minutes walk away from the back (slightly hidden) entrance to the National Theatre metro station. Everyone member of staff we met on reception was helpful and very pleasant to deal with. In our experience the rooms were bright and welcoming, exceptionally clean and quiet, the beds comfortable and the organic shower products a real treat. The organic breakfast was excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel and go back in a flash if we could. We also commend their organic and sustainable philosophy which they take very seriously and are achieving high standards in.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. My baggage had been delayed from Copenhagen when I flew in, but the staff were very friendly and helpful in offering to call the airline, and when it still wasn't delivered later in the day, they helped recommend a 24hr pharmacy at midnight so I could dash into town and buy personal toiletries (for contact lenses). They recommended a wonderful Italian restaurant nearby as well, away from the more touristy Akers Brygge. The breakfast was superb...really wholesome and plentiful - imagine loaves of bread still warm being served, and I liked the furnishings too, even if some people may not like the animal skins. With the sustainability theme of the hotel, I really didn't think they would have sourced them in an irresponsible manner. All in all, despite the stress of not having my luggage for 48hrs, I still enjoyed myself in Oslo and this hotel.

We so enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. The room, although smallish, was very restful. The breakfast was amazing.
The hotel is situated in a very quiet semi residential area of Oslo and yet within walking distance of everything you would want to visit and see .... close to the harbour and the Royal Palace and lots of eateries.
We loved the attention to detail in the rooms and bathrooms in particular. The organic creams and lotions for our use were a really nice touch. The room was cleaned daily with fresh
towels . We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would return to it if ever visiting Oslo again

Room Tip: As far as I know, all rooms were good
