“Great friendly atmosphere!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2013

I have stayed here several times, as I frequently visit Oslo.
With it's location and its old school, classic approach it has always been a natural choice.
Yes, I can not really call it a luxury hotel, if I compare to hotels abroad, but for Oslo, this is definitely one of the better.
There is always a friendly smile, and the guys at the door are always very service minded and quick a fun joke.
The bar is very classic and great for a pre dinner cocktail.
Rooms are as others have described typical European sized, with decent interior and standard.

I stay here for sure because of the service and nice attitude of the staff, and I will definitely be back!

Located right in the Heart of the City, Built on Stortingsgata ( street name) this Hotel building looks quite an old structure, still the hotel gives you a feeling of magnificent charm. Right opposite you can see National theatre, Behind the hotel lanes within 5 mins walk you can visit the Noble Peace Center. The size of the room is good, toilet looks dilapidated needs makeover. The breakfast spread was fair enough. Best part of the hotel is the multitasking staff which I found through out Norway. The manager you will find him at the desk, and can sometimes bring your car out from the parking, courteous and efficient staff...... would really love to be here whenever I m back in Oslo....

We spent 3 nights in Oslo this month and stayed at Hotel Continental. We got the train from the airport to the NationalTheater station and sure enough, spotted the Hotel across the road as we exited through the main entrance. Thankfully this was the case as the snow was really coming down at that point!
We were given a nice room on the 5th floor and were perfectly happy with its size and facilities.
The breakfast was my favourite part of the hotel, the spread pretty standard for Scandinavia but it was all good quality. Fresh pineapple, melon, kiwi etc, lashings of smoked salmon....all tasty.
The hotel is next to the National Theatre and in between the Royal Palace and Parliament. We walked everywhere, up to Frogner Park, down to the harbour, it is a very compact city.
We would recommend the Hotel Continental.

The Continental is a truly lovely hotel, both grand and intimate. It is clearly a place to be seen in Oslo, in late November the lobby bar was bustling. It is also connected to one of the great old restuarants in Oslo. It couldn't be more centrally located right opposite the national theater. I walked everywhere from the hotel. The room was compact but lovely. The staff was helpful and cheerful and I loved the waiter and waitress in the lobby bar and theater cafe respectively. I would highly recommend this hotel based on staff, location and buzz. The only thing that was so so was the breakfast buffet. It was perfectly acceptable, but I had been waiting for a spectacular Norwegian buffet and this was nothing special.

Great location downtown, next to everything, easy to walk to anything you need. Room was a bit small, and bathroom a bit dated, but lovely, quiet and the bed was amazing. I'd stay here again.

The service was amazing. Great recommendations by the concierge, and the front desk ready to please always.

We stayed with friends in early Dec 2012 never having been to Oslo before. We were only staying from Friday to Sunday and visiting the Christmas markets and local museums. The weather was dry and ranged from -8c to -12c with mainly clear skies and dry. All the streets were cleared of the thin layer of snow with plenty of grit but a few ice patches. We walked to all the attractions without any issues and caught a bus to the outdoor museum. The ticket needs to be purchased in advance from stores like Severn Eleven and stamped on the bus. The hotel is old style with traditional looks and a very good level of service albeit a bit varied from very good to not as we would have expected. Unfortunately on the 2 nights we stayed there were functions in the 1st or 2nd floor room and the music started at 23:30 and ran until 01:30. The friends we were with were 3 floors above but had to be move due to the noise. They were placed in a 7th floor suite that was very nice! Our room was further around the corner and although we could hear it it was not too disturbing. I would recommend that you avoid rooms directly above the function room unless you have checked they are not using the room. The rooms are well appointed with a small bath with shower over and very warm. There were separate duvets on a queen bed in the room we had. A mini bar and snacks are in the room but at the usual hotel prices. The TV was well placed but only had local channels and the pay per movie channels. Unusual not to see CNN or BBC World. The shower was good and plenty of hot water and fluffy towels.
If you have never been to Norway be prepared for the prices of food and beverages being approx. double the price of London and Paris. The quality was very good but it was very difficult to get into any restaurants as they were all fully booked. We booked our last dinner 2 weeks in advance and judging by the responses we had on the night we were not booked they are all full well in advance. Even the bars that serve food are full! We had a great time and would recommend the city and hotel without hesitation.

Room Tip: Check the hotel does not have any functions or that your room is well away from the function room. H...

Excellent location - and very friendly staff. Stayed 1 week, got a run-down room with old worn furniture and stains on the carpet. Not by any means luxury. Breakfast is good but cramped dining room with small tables, it was possible to get freshly brewed coffee - but this had guests ask for on their own initiative. In order to be a 5 star hotel stay was a disappointment. No lounge for hotel guests only chair in the room. Theatercafeen is historic and well worth a visit.
