“Great lunch menu”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

Soria Moria, located on the hills above Oslo, has a nice view and is a well known conference center in Norway. The rooms are of a high standard and the conference facilities are good. There is also a pool located in the basement and a tennis court outside. The biggest advantage on Soria Moria, in my opinion, is the food. Both the dinner and the lunch was really great, but the lunch buffet was excellent. Good selection of regular hotel food topped with some great specialities. Delicious.

Outstanding view. Far away from city center, expensive. Food average. Dusty carpets on floor and terrible not possible regulate air conditioning.

Booking was done and already payed by company via internet hotel booking services.
I was in hotel 10 pm. Staff in reception asked to prove booking with showing same card (bussiness one) and with participation of person who booked (CEO) !!!
I was lucky one, cause CEO was also in Oslo at that moment and he was able to arrive in one hour... Just imagine: hotel payed, voucher with booking on your name you have in hands and you just can go out and sleep in nice forest.
I could agree with safety reasons when booking done personaly, but what about company made bookings?

Great location if you enjoy being close to nature. Rooms need upgrade and climate control. Food needs improvement. Clean air, nice views of Oslo, but far away.

We were fortunate enough to use the Askeladdenshus facilities for our leadership course, and these have to be the best in Oslo, without doubt. The staff at the hotel are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are functional and for many overseas travellers might seem a little sparse, but they have everything one needs. The views around the hotel are superb, some of the best views of the Oslofjord you can find. The food served for the group was varied and well presented. Sometimes the numbers of the group - 22 - got the better of the kitchen and the food was just warm. The wines were excellent, well chosen.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the nearby forest. The quiet rooms are at the back of the hotel.

This is a rare thing, a hotel that in reality is far better than its website claims. After being disillusioned by hotel websites that oversell the product, this one goes to the other extreme.
It is a very comfortable conference hotel with awesome views over Oslo and the mountains. It's main drawback is the distance from the city centre and the over-priced taxi from the central station in Oslo.
The food is superb. The menu is not extensive but the food is good and is well-presented.
All rooms are comfortable, modern and clean. Wireless Internet is available throughout and there is no charge for it (other hotels, please take note!)
There is a gym and a swimming pool. Apparently, the pool has been reopened recently after an upgrade. I didn't get to check either facility out, because I didn't bring any kit. I would have done, if the hotel website had mentioned the gym and the pool.

This hotel is basically just a conference hotel. In that aspect it is great. The best view in Oslo, quiet and in the mids of our great nature.
As a general hotel it should be avoided. It is to far from anything and a taxi-ride from/to downtown Oslo would cost approx 45 Euroes.
99% of all guest would be conference-guests and is clearly ( and understandable) the staffs first priority. As a sole traveller/couple you would find yourselves a bit alone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

The hotel is on top of Hollmenkollen, Oslo centre is 30 mins by car. It's large, and basically a conference hotel. As a tourist, especially in the summer, it has a cold, uncomfortable feel. Many rooms face a grass slope going up right outside the window (2m) view, or another building a couple of meters away.
Breakfast was good. All in all it's reasonable value if your expectations are not that high.
