“Good beer and lunch at an affordable price, right in the centre”
Reviewed 3 December 2011

The Tempest Football Pub was a great find. At last I could eat and drink without thinking too much about the price.

The beer's very good indeed (served by cheerful barmaids), and the food's good too, although not fancy.

I was there in late afternoon. There were lots of people in, almost all so far as I could tell locals.

They have big screens showing football matches - when I was there there was one UK match on in one corner, and one Norwegian - but if you aren't interested in football it doesn't matter. Plenty of customers were obviously there just for a drink with friends or something to eat.

To get there, stand facing the old City Hall (with your back to the sea). Then go round the right hand edge of the City Hall and up the big street leading inland, up towards Karl Johans gate, the Cathedral etc. The Tempest's about fifty yards up that street, on the left.
