“Saves you a long Norwegian trip”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

This open-air museum gathers buildings from all of Norway together. From barns to grass-covered huts you find a variety of buildings. Impressive is the wooden stave church. The museums café do not feature specialties from around the country and can be by-passed.

“One of our Fav Things in Oslo”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

My husband and I absolutely loved this impressive open air museum---it was the best way to learn about Norwegian history, culture, food, architecture etc. A great selection of buildings from different eras and one amazing stav ((wooden) church. Some wonderful young ladies in historical costumes were serving fresh-baked bread with phenomenal churned butter, at a very reasonable price. After spending the morning exploring this site, we definitely understood why Norwegians and other Scandinavians emigrated to the upper-midwest in the US---they were likely the only ones who knew how to survive the brutal winters there. Well worth a few hours' visit, especially since its part of the many attractions included with an Oslo pass!

“Very interesting”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

I loved the actual museums that are on site. The walk through the homes, shops, etc. got a little overwhelming for me (my wife loved it). Lots of cabins from long ago....a beautiful old church...all moved to the site. Worth a look, but it will probably take 3 hours or so to do right.

“How they lived”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

An excellent collection of houses, barnes, and churches from various time periods presented in a country setting. See what comprised a small village in the 1800's. Dwellings from much earlier time periods as well. There are also live animals on the property to replicate farm life. See a Stave church. Well worth a visit.

“This is NOT to miss!”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

This outdoor museum takes you back hundreds of years to what Norway used to be. The exhibits are amazing. The building are so well preserved. I spent hours there and could have spent many more.
