“Charm and decor”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

This hotel has charm and I was impressed and had a good feeling from the moment I entered the reception area and the adjacent lounge area. The rooms are big with two single beds, two arm chairs and a coffee table, minibar and TV. Free internet avaible. The breakfast offer is enormous at a high quality. I stayed at the hotel from a Thursday to Friday on a business trip with some colleagues. The only down size - some of them told me - was the noise coming from the discotheque opposite the hotel. My room faced the courtyard, and my sleep was not interfered by noise from the outside.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the courtyard to avoid discotheque noise

When you walk into this hotel you will be immediately impressed with the beautiful lobby. It has the ambiance and old world charm of a bygone era. In the book lined library bar in the lobby it's impossible not to check out the all old books. I saw some fascinating titles, unfortunately all in Norwegian. In your room you will find a large contemporary bathroom with plenty of space on the counter for your toiletries and makeup and there is a hair dryer. The room is totally clean and with jetlag nagging at your eyelids you will not be disappointed by the comfortable bed. Our window looked out towards a courtyard with no real view but plenty of natural light. There were two comfortable chairs and a table so when you are in the room during the day you don't have to sit awkwardly on the bed, but that bed is so wonderful you really might want to go ahead and lay down again. My fiance and I had four suitcases between us and we were able to stow them without difficult because there was plenty of room. The location is excellent and we were able to walk to all the Oslo hotspots in central Oslo. The staff were very helpful orienting us and showing us how to get to the mass transit to reach the Viking museum. The best part of the Hotel Bristol is definitely the breakfasts! When you go to Norway you will notice how expensive EVERYTHING is, so you can really pack it in with the extensive breakfasts. They serve the breakfast in a lovely restaurant with the buffet spread in an adjoining room. I think there is something for every taste, I personally loved the waffles and crepes. And the waffles are freshly made and placed out on the buffet unlike the other hotels which make you pour your own batter. With all these good attributes I can't imagine a better place to stay. It is a wonderful hotel and you can't go wrong in choosing Bristol.

Room Tip: The rooms facing into the courtyard are very quiet.

The location is great. 100m walk from airport bus stop, and walking distance to the waterfront area. Breakfast spread was good too. The freshly squeeze/made fruit juices and smoothies are the real treat. Rooms are spacious but the double bed is made up of 2 single mattresses (not so comfortable for couples).

One stay in this very central location. Comfortable room and very nice staff. We had afternoon tea with amazing custard tarts. The place is busy and very cosmopolitan. Would use this place again. The breakfast was buffet was buffet style and certainly enough for any appetite.

If you have a lunch meeting in Oslo, this is the place. You should not arrive before 11:30 and preferably not stay after 14:00. Thats when it is busy; and it can be fun.

Here sits the Norwegian public and eat tall sandwiches. Classic sandwiches. Smorgosbord. Smoked and cured salmon, beef patty, hand-peeled shrimp with high quality, seasonal sandwishes, and a separate al a carte menu. You order drinks and help Yourself.

I recommend the local apple juice with lots of ice. Perfect! And black coffee after the meal.
If you have room, I recommended the napoleon cake. OMG. perfect, but powerful.

Preferably, you should reserve a table. Good Luck!

Room Tip: Order a table - it can be very busy.

I have stayed at this historic and elegant hotel several times. The historic atmosphere of the entire hotel, the friendly staff and the extravagant breakfast buffet is at the top. My room at the last visit was large (see attached photo), clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small but ok.

The lobby is decorated in classic style with dark wood chairs (see attached photo) and large paintings on the walls. There is a coffee shop towards the back of the lobby and also a bar area. The grill is very good as well. The WiFi is free but limited to about 1 MB (you have to pay extra for higher speed).

The staff is always very friendly.
