We booked a reservation to stay the night at Lysebu hotel, partly due to the high regards for their restaurant; after all, we are arriving on a Sunday, and many restaurants seem to be closed on Sundays (the nice restaurant at Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica is closed, for example, which was a big reason we looked elsewhere.)

Although the prix fixe menus is pricey, we figured we would indulge in a nice meal (and maybe an aquavit tasting flight) for our first night in the country. Looking at their hours, the website (and Visitnorway) say 6:00-10:00 pm Mon-Sun (every night of the week) for dinner. The restaurant website says "Every week, our head chef Michael Lunga composes a 7-course menu based on the finest seasonal ingredients."

Nowhere does it mention that the chef does NOT do this every week, because the restaurant appears to be completely closed for the entire month of July (and including the last weekend in June -- conveniently when we were booked to arrive); at least, that is what their online booking calendar states ("sommer stengt" -- if you translate to English, it says nothing at all on those dates, but shows no availability for booking between June 28-August 2)

To confirm whether this was the case, we emailed restaurant coordinator Nicole Wrage as instructed on the website... but never received a response.

There are no other restaurants around; if this were downtown Oslo we could walk somewhere, perhaps, but we specifically booked this place to AVOID downtown Oslo that night; with the restaurant closed, you have no choice but to leave the hotel and eat elsewhere.

We have had to cancel our hotel reservation and change plans as a result of this. It would be nice if they had noted somewhere on the hotel or restaurant website that you will have no chance to eat there in the middle of summer...

Being for the first time in Norway, me and my wife did not know what we were going to find. This wonderful Hotel gave the chance of enjoying all we had dreamed of. Peaceful views, healthy food of high class quality and staff very polite and efficient.
Although it is not located right in the center, only the surroundings and the atmosphere make it worht it.
Totally recommended.

The hotel is located in the mountain area in Oslo. Around 45 minutes total travel time from the city center or the University (Blindern). Around 12 minutes walk (up hill, can be difficult with heavy luggage) from the T-Bane station to the hotel.
Huge room with double beds (even if you are traveling solo), with sofas, and table. Very small TV, so do not come to this hotel if you are traveling with TV-addicted children.
Good Breakfast (unfortunately nothing with Chicken or Turkey, everything with pork). The hotel has Sauna, Gym, and Swimming also, so everything one needs in a ‘get away’ hotel. Prices are high, very high, even with Norwegian standard. The breakfast is served only between 07:00-09:00, which is odd. Different varieties of egg dishes, pure butter, fresh breads, etc. The staff is very nice, and they try their best to take care of you. The toilets do not have a ventilation, which is fine in summer (by keeping the window open for a while), but you might have trouble sleeping in winter  No boiler in room, but the staff at reception is nice, and can get you warm water/tea/coffee any time (even middle of the night).
The main problem is the location of the hotel. You cannot go anywhere to eat, and the restaurant at the hotel is expensive. This is not for people who need to be at a meeting at 08:00 in City center area.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the same building as the reception. The view may not be great, but the rooms are la...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and we couldn't choose better.
The room was very nice, felt like home. The bed is super comfortable, I slept better than in my own bed at home. The breakfast is beyond amazing, organic food and beautiful view.
Staff is very helpful, we got a late check out without to pay any extra because the room wasn't booked after us.
That was very hard to leave this hotel, definitely recommend and we'll go back next time when need a room in Oslo. I loved every second in this hotel!

There is an attitude at this hotel which we could not help but notice. They expect to excel at everything, and at every point they went one step further than we could have hoped. they did everything to make the stay unforgettable. The meal in the evening was one of the best we have ever had anywhere in the world, and the breakfast delightful in its setting, and delicious. When we unfortunately left a coat and scarf there, the staff did everything possible to get it back to us.

Room Tip: We didn't ask for a special room, yet the view was perfect, and the room ideal.

Located in the "mountains" surrounding Oslo and only twenty minutes away, this is a place to see the real nature of south eastern Norway without having to leave Oslo. Very good food and an excellent wine list at the restaurant, modern rooms with the views as if you stayed in a private Norwegian cabin. Twenty minutes or so from downtown Oslo by car.

A beautiful hotel and location on the mountain behind Oslo. Not easy to reach without ones own car and taxis are very expensive as most things are here in Norway. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely pool with views over mountains and forest. Excellent restaurant and menu largely organic and local but heavily meat and fish based.
